Boris Spassky es un jugador de estilo universal que nunca destacó por nada de especial pero que era un jugador fortísimo campeón del mundo nada menos en 1969, en realidad se hizo mucho más famoso tres años más tarde en 1972 cuando perdió el título ante el legendario norteamericano Bobby Fischer en aquel entonces los soviéticos sobre todo el gobierno soviético no podía comprender que uno de sus héroes perdiera del título ante un joven estadounidense y Spassky fue recibido como un traidor en Moscú, poco después Spassky se enamoró de una francesa y llegó a un pacto con su gobierno para que le permitieran emigrar a Francia.
