When Boris Spassky lost the world chess title to the American Bobby Fischer Rome in 1972, he was received as a traitor in the Soviet Union, which made him lose morally, even losing a game to players like Mikhail Tal the following year, 1973, little by little space was adopting a calm and carefree character because what had happened was not a reason to let his future wither, with the passing of the years he was taking as a habit to practice tennis in his free time, in fact in the tournaments that he began to play after 1975 he began to have the habit of taking his tennis racket to the game and place it on one of the legs of the table, With this gesture he gave his rivals to understand that he wanted to make a draw quickly to go and play tennis, many of the rivals accepted the draw because it was not easy to engage with a former world champion and as a result of all this he adopted the nickname of The Bear, referring to the pandas that live most of their lives with laziness, hence the nickname that Spassky took, but there was always one or the other daring one that did not allow to engage with the former world champion and forced him to continue playing paying the consequences of the Russian's genius.

One of the most recognized cases was in 1988, after 16 years of having lost his title in Reykjavik, Boris Spassky returned there to play the World Chess Cup, obtaining very good results and keeping himself in the first places, he arrived to the game with his tennis racket and in only the 12th move he offered a draw to none other than Alexander Beliasvky, which was in command of the black pieces and to draw with black pieces before peace was a very good result but, we must take into account that a couple of years later Beliasvky would be part of the world chess elite so he had more than enough mettle to face the champion but, it did not go as well as he thought because in this [game](https: //www. chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1129486) that I show you today Spassky pushed aside the bear and awoke the roaring lion that had characterized him throughout his career, I hope you enjoy the game. Thank you very much for visiting my blog, the images used in the thumbnail and in this brief description are screenshots taken from the editing of the video.
