Why so much hypocrisy in the sports world?

I do not like wars, I think it is the worst way to solve differences ever created, although I know very well that this is something very characteristic of humanity I still believe that we can improve as a species, of course, one of those things that make me have confidence in us as a society is represented by sports.

I love soccer, I practice it since I was a child and my son inherited this passion for this sport from me, like me his life revolves around scoring goals and dreaming of lifting the world cup. It is beautiful to see him grow in his game and to see how he respects the social values that this sport promotes.

Then I see on the other hand how politics, the worst and most disgusting invention ever created by mankind, the cause of all the wars, death and destruction recorded in all the history books (and on the web) gets its claws into sports, soiling what little was left of beauty in something created by man.

There are things that are hard for me to keep quiet about and I cannot remain silent about the double standards that the sports world is pushing regarding the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, because it is really disgusting the way Russian sportsmen are treated as if they were the ones shelling and killing Ukrainians.

No gentlemen, sportsmen, whatever nationality they are, are not MURDERERS, and from this space I vindicate the Russians in their right to participate in sporting events. If in the past nobody thought of disassociating the athletes of NAZI Germany from sporting events, I think it is an act of total hypocrisy to consider this action with Russian athletes.

On the other hand, is Russia the only country that is involved in Human Rights violations, why nobody thinks of parading China, Israel, North Korea or Saudi Arabia, countries known for their little respect for human dignity, I suppose that if we detach all the nations that were involved in wars and invasions surely there would be no Olympic Games or World Cups.

Recently there was a game between the Russian soccer teams and their Ukrainian counterparts, beyond the result, sporting values prevailed in the development of the match, in the end respect and friendship among soccer players prevailed over political stupidity.

Sportsmen do not throw bombs, do not destroy buildings, do not starve whole villages or cause people to flee their homes or land. For a sportsman to lose the right to compete just because of something he did not do is as demeaning as what politicians do to humanity.

It's a complex issue. I completely agree that there is too much hypocrisy around, and that if we ban one country's sporting teams for the actions of its government, then we should be fair about it. It was wild having the Winter Olympics in China... during a pandemic.

However, when you are trying to dissuade a government of horrible things, ie, murdering the civilians of a another sovereign nation, but you aren't willing to use force, then you have to use other tools at your disposal, which may mean uninviting sports teams, because, people love sports and have national pride in their teams. I don't know how effective it can be, but I think it's worth trying any tool possible to try and stop the bloodshed.

For Russia, there is no such thing as pure sports. Following the communist traditions, for Russia, sports is a prominent form of soft power and a propaganda tool.
