How Skateboarding Led Me Into Photography and Film.
After talking about my skate journey ¨20 years of skateboarding life¨, it feels right to now share the role photography and video have played in my path.
It’s been around 10 years since I first stepped into this universe, and one thing has become very clear: you never really stop learning.
Looking back, these 10 years fall into two very different phases. The first five were driven by an amateur mindset, pure curiosity, and that classic do-it-yourself spirit. It was more about experimenting than understanding technique. Even without fully knowing what I was doing, I kept creating and today I see how essential that time was. It became my real-life school, where I built familiarity, speed, and a genuine connection between skateboarding and photography.
The last five years, though, were far more focused on cinematic craft. This was when I started learning, in practice and in the field, what it actually means to be a filmmaker. I skated less and spent more time indoors, editing, color grading, framing shots, metering light, and diving into the details the audiovisual world demands. Each new skill pushed me further, motivating me to develop my own projects and tell my own stories.
Time moved fast, and today it marks 10 years since I began this grind toward becoming a filmmaker and photographer. Five of those years were spent working as a camera assistant on a variety of projects, including skate projects, gaining experience, perspective, and constant learning along the way.
Once again, I can only thank skateboarding for always being my compass, pointing me in the right direction. Writing this here, within this community, makes that belief even stronger — opening space for dialogue and sharing a piece of my experience at the peak of my hard-earned 31 years.
