#FPL WEEK 2: DO NOT PANIC

So the English Premier League (EPL) started last week, hence the beginning of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL). I have been playing the FPL for a while now but this season is different. Why? Because of the Hive FPL Project. I am always excited when the community does something mainstream. In my opinion, it is a good way to get more people into the hive ecosystem.

In the Fantasy Leagues, there are over 8 million players. This is a good space to spread the gospel of hive without having to talk about hive. So Kudos to belemo and the hive EPL team. I really love what you guys are doing and I hope this project gains more traction outside the hive ecosystem.

SUGGESTION

One of the best platforms to gain traction on is TikTok. I will suggest that clips from the weekly FPL show are shared on TikTok. Also, the TikTok football community is equity vibrant. I follow a couple Tiktok football influencers from Nigeria and they are quite accessible. Collaboration can happen, The hive FPL project can be introduced to the larger TikTok football community and I believe they will welcome the project.

WEEK 1

How did we perform?

IMG_20220811_204457.jpg

To my greatest surprise, I did perform better than I expected. I have a rule of averaging 50 points each week. This should keep me within the top 1 million spots. The FPL is quite competitive and you need a little bit of luck and strategy to do well.

My team selection for week one was quite straightforward. I employed the same strategy i use every year:

3-5-3 / 3-4-2 FORMATION.

I am a fan of the 3-4-2 formation. It's like playing with 7 attackers, the chance of getting goals and assist are high. From my team selection, you can say that my front seven are wingers and strikers. Even my defenders are wing backs, so you can say I am working with 10 attacking players who can score and assist.

FPL with not Sallah

It might sound controversial coming from a Liverpool fan but I do not think Sallah will perform as expected. I might be wrong but I am sticking with Diaz, whose conversion rate isn’t great, seems counterintuitive right? Well time will tell

Haaland s a most have…

I don’t care what you think of him but Haaland will be the top scorer in the premier league this season. The Manchester City team is set up for him. My only problem with him is that he isn’t a playmaker. On days when he cannot bag the goals, would he provide assists? This is where I fancy Jesus over him, but that is a huge gamble (and I am not sure if Arsenal will be consistent throughout the season), so I am sticking with Haaland. Also, there is a huge chance Haaland goes up in value, which will allow me to bring in players like Sallah and Son later in the future.

Let's not forget Nunez

There is a Nunez-Haaland rival that is taking shape. They both play for the top two teams in the EPL, and it is my belief that this will push both players to their limits. Nunez may not be as good as Haaland but he would get goals if Sallah doesn't take the spotlight as I have predicted. For the last 2-3 seasons the Liverpool team has been built around Sallah. I saw that change in the second half of last season. This gives players like Diaz and Nunez a chance to shine.

WEEK 2

So for week 2, I am not making any changes to my team. I think it is too early to start fretting. I am confident in my selection. Asides from having good players, I also consider their teams’ matches for at least five-week to weigh in on the difficulty of such matches. From my observation, Arsenal and ManCity would have it easy in their next five games, so i believe Jesus and Haaland will bag the goals. Five of my players are from these two teams.

In the coming weeks I am looking at selling the following players:

  • Coutinho (Aston Villa doesn’t look convincing and that might impact Coutinho's performance)
  • Tanganga (Doesn’t look like a regular)
  • Patterson (I don’t even know why I purchased this player)
  • Walker (I need Cancelo or )

That will be all for today guys. Cheers!
