Liverpool Immortalise The Number 20
It has been a hard two weeks since Diogo Jota and his brothers passed away from this world. It was a sad day for the football world as we lost a good player and an important member of the Liverpool squad. Death comes at times when it's least expected, and that happened in the case of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre. Liverpool has taken their time to mourn the player with the rest of the family, which has been professional by the club this past week. It has been a hard time for the Diogo Jota and Andre family as it's not easy to lose the two kids and the father of four children.
Liverpool players paid their respect to Diogo Jota and Andre at their funeral last week. Players like Federico Chiesa, Virgil Van Dijk, Robertson, and many more attended the funeral. There were former teammates of Diogo Jota who attended the funeral, like Neves, Henderson, and Adam Lallana, who attended the funeral ceremony for Diogo Jota and Andre. More people came to pay their respects at the funeral, and after the funeral, as the list is long, the important thing to take away is that many people cared for the two brothers.
Liverpool officials were present at the funeral as well, and the club has taken the liberty to immortalise the number 20 in honour of Diogo Jota. There will be no player, past, present, or future, who will wear that number in the club as it has been given as a tribute to the late Diogo Jota. This was the right thing for the club to do, and honestly, I was expecting them to do this sooner. The late Diogo has now become a legend at the clubs, as anyone in the future who asks why the number 20 was immortalised will know about the late Diogo Jota.
Liverpool will also be paying up the remaining two years of Diogo Jota's contract to the family, which is an incredible gesture from the club. Liverpool has been helpful throughout this period to the family of Diogo Jota and Andre, which makes the club's motto speak more as it says, “You will never walk alone”. Diogo Jota will always be a big part of the club's history and will never be forgotten, and although this will be the last time writing about the player, he will still be part of the beautiful memories he brought to the club. REST IN PEACE DIOGO JOTA AND ANDRE
