CHELSEA AND IT'S UNRULY STREAK
Hello all,
Breaking news is Chelsea's breach of the rule of the game in financial matters, once again. They are only just coming out of a transfer ban also as a result of financial misdealings.
This current one is that Chelsea and 3 other clubs have just been fined by UEFA, specifically the UEFA's CFCB First Chamber.
Why?
All four did "not comply with the football earnings rule which was assessed for the first time in the 2024/25 season". The analysis covered the financial years ending in 2023 and 2024. All the clubs have pleaded guilty as charged and have agreed settlements and fines.
Chelsea have agreed to a four-year settlement and a total fine of €80m, of which €20m is unconditional.
Furthermore
The CFCB First Chamber found that Chelsea( as well as Aston Villa) also breached the squad cost rule, having reported a squad cost ratio above 80% for 2024.
This has resulted in a further €11m fine for Chelsea. So the guaranteed fine is €31m (€20m+€11m).
It's such an unruly club in the management of their finances.
It's not as if UEFA woke up today and suddenky decided these things. These things are already contained in the rule book AND CHELSEA ARE AWARE OF IT.
The rule book has been there for DECADES, the most recent amendment was in June 2024. So there's no excuse.
Chelsea's recent sale of assets, eg two hotels, does not count as profit as the rule book rejects the sales of assets as profit, there are TWO MORE:
2》UEFA rejects profits made from the exchange of players (so called “swaps”).
3》UEFA rejects profits from the transfers of players between related parties.
So UEFA rejects all the above three as relevant income. Numbers 2 and 3 are matters related to squad cost earlier mentioned.
So Chelsea failed on these 3 counts, eventhough they since had the Knowldge of the UEFA rules.
Indeed such unruly behaviour by this club.
Cheers all
