VINCENT KOMPANY SHUTTING MOUTHS
The hitherto ridiculed coaching kid is now forcing a lot of people to eat their own words.
What did I not tell people last year when Kompany was still fresh in the Bayern Munich? Once I reminded them that I have seen how they wax lyrical about Pep Guardiola. They can write paragraphs about how good he is, nay that he is the best in the world.
Infact, if I chipped in to tell some of them how good a certain Marcelo Bielsa is because he mentored Pep, they would laugh it off and exalt Pep as the legend of them all.
Then I went on to tell them that, this their legendary coach, Pep Guardiola, spoke to Bayern on Kompany before his employment. They counted it as nothing.
Once I gave them a quote of what I just said above to attempt to at least cool down the total contempt they had for Kompany's appointment.
Here's it:
"Eberl[Bayern Munich's Director of sports] asked me to talk to [Guardiola] as I am close friends with Pep," Rummenigge said. "I told Pep I needed an authentic and honest analysis. We then were talking on the phone for almost two hours. To make a long story short, he said that he was 100% convinced that Vincent Kompany would be the absolutely perfect coach for Bayern."
Now that's not a 5mins discussion, not 10 not 20mins, with the former CEO of Bayern– Mr Rummenigge. A CEO for 19yrs, a man you can call Mr. Bayern who is now what you can call the club's "foreign minister" as he keeps seeking to help the club.
That's also a discussion between two friends, by the way, so it is all sincere talk from the heart. Somebody wants to tell us to ignore a NEARLY 2 HOUR DISCUSSION? How reasonable is such a person in saying that?
So I concluded last year that, a lot of anti-Kompany folks were naysayers 💯% original.
A coach you rate so highly, is confirming or recommending a coach and you are busy arguing? Who does that? What do you know in coaching and in the football business above the recommender, Pep?
On another time, within thesame period, I even gave them a comparison. I said
AC Milan employed a coach with a big enough reputation to lead them, Fonseca, at thesame time Kompany was employed for Bsyern. AC Milan had big players and a big coach to match, a coach bigger than Kompany, yet he has since been sacked, yet Kompany remains. They still refused to see sense in this comparison.
Also many of the naysayers have forgotten that Kompany met a dressing room in turmoil as Tuchel had some squabbles with some of the players. So it was a double job for Kompany – not just coaching, but fostering team spirit. It was no mean fit. It is such a united dressing room today, everyone focused on helping the team.
I always tell people to look at how that Bayer Leverkusen team of last season has been ferociously "attacked" by buyers this summer. Too many good players! Yet Kompany brought that Leverkusen to it's knees last season, winning the Bundesliga and directly eliminating them from the Champions league.
It's a remarkable shift the Belgian coach, Vincent Kompany, has put in overall. I lie not, he has shut the mouth of so many doubters.
It's already an even better Bayern team this season. I wish him the best.
