3 out of 4 for Steven G.
What a dream start it has been for Steven Gerrard who recently took over the job at Aston Villa. He has won 3 games out of his 4 games which shows promise and must have instilled confidence in his players to trust him more. He got another win and this time an important one which would give Aston Villa a bragging right after defeating Leicester City by 2 goals to 1 in the West Midlands tie.
It was a wonderful game with a lot of chances from both teams. There was hardly any moment given to catch our breaths as both teams showed how much they wanted this win and Villa showed it more. Villa would have won by more goals while Leicester City could also have snatched a draw as well but 2 goals from Konsa and a solitary goal from Barnes early in the game was overturned by the 2 goals from Konsa who did everything to get his hat-trick which his positioning despite being a defender.
Daka did everything well in the 14th minute after he wonderfully set up Barnes just at the edge of the box. Barnes perfectly picked out his angle as he stroked the ball into the bottom right corner of the net to give his side a deserved 1-0 lead so early on.
The lead only lasted 3 minutes as Aston Villa had a freekick delivered into the box by Douglas Luiz. There was a scramble before Buendia managed to get his head onto the ball. Konsa managed to get his foot on the ball despite the ball going into the net and the goal was credited to him
Villa finally turned the game around in the 54th minute after McGinn delivered a corner kick into the box. He picked out Konsa at the near post and the goalkeeper was well beaten even at his near post by Konsa with a lovely headed effort. Konsa gave Aston Villa the lead for the first time in the game.
Leicester City tried to get back into the game as Madison tried to pick out the top left corner of the post with a beautiful curling effort but he missed by just a margin. Martinez later denied Barnes his second goal with a brilliant one-hand save after Barnes latched on to a delivery into the box with a looping header. The acrobatic save from Martinez late on gave Villa the 3 points and ensure that Steven Gerrard's only defeat came against the 'now' league leaders; Manchester City.
The game ended 2-1 and Villa took all the 3 points against their West Midlands rival.
