It took Chelsea a long time to get here but here they are. It took a drastic transition to get them here but they are here now. Chelsea fought hard to get 13 points out of 15 possible points which have now lifted them into 4th place by displacing Liverpool, who has been having a run of bad patches. The resurgent effort led by Thomas Tuchel is paying off.
Chelsea started brightly and Alonso had a low drive shot that was saved in the 2nd minute. Not too long after, Azpilicueta also had a header from a corner kick blocked by another header from Gayle, who has been out of action for Newcastle for a long time now.
Tammy Abraham was played through in the box and he was expertly denied with a timely tackle. It was a brilliant tackle but not so much for Tammy.
Chelsea couldn't be denied for too long when Werner had a brilliant ball in from the left-hand side of the box but the low cross was saved and fell to Giroud who wasted no time with the rebound. He simply smashed his effort home to break Newcastle's heart in the 31st minute. Warner should be commended there with that amazing effort.
Warner soon got what his effort deserved in the 39th minute when a brilliant corner kick was delivered only for it to deflect off a Newcastle player. The ball came to Werner who simply guided the ball home. It was more of a one-sided affair for Chelsea and it showed how much progress they have recorded under the new coach. He seemed to be managing the team well and giving everyone a fair chance to impress him.
Chelsea has now won 4 Premier League games in a row for the first time since November 2019 when they had a run of 6 games under the recently sacked Lampard.
Newcastle United too have lost 6 games out of 7 away Premier League games where they only won 1, after losing just 1 game out of 6 games before that - winning 2 and drawing 3. They are seriously on a run of bad patches right now too.
Chelsea has now won 8 consecutive home matches against the same opponent, which is Newcastle United for the first time since they had a 9 game wins in a row against West Bromwich Albion. Newcastle would feel cursed when they meet Chelsea and with the rate at which surprises are springing up and records are being broken, it wouldn't be too long for Newcastle to put a halt to that record.
It was a good game for Chelsea who is in desperate need of points and they were able to take advantage of Liverpool's slip to move into 4th place. If they continue with this form, they would be guaranteed a place in Europe next season.
