Chelsea Lost Ground.

Chelsea lost ground in the title race even though they moved a point ahead of Liverpool into 2nd place but having played a game more than the Reds. The frustration was evident after the final whistle against Brighton because they knew they blew their chance to close up on Manchester City. It would have been a good 3 points before taking on Liverpool in the new year.

Lukaku started his first game in a long while and he got himself on the score sheet before substitute, Danny Welbeck broke the Blues' heart with a stoppage-time equalizer. Chelsea are now 8 points behind City after playing a stalemate at home against Brighton. It felt more like a defeat for Chelsea and if Brighton were given a point before the start of the game they would have taken it but they played with passion and intensity, so no one can say they didn't deserve the point shared at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea had a series of opportunities to get ahead in the early exchanges but they were half-chances that didn't threaten the defence line that much and they were easily dealt with by the defence. Brighton also had their chance through Lamptey but he dragged his shot wide despite his brilliant footwork to get into the box.

Chelsea showed character so early on with Rudiger's header being saved at the near post with Azpilicueta's attempt inside the box striking the post also. He managed to get his foot on the attempt despite how difficult it was but his effort was stopped from going in by the post. Mason Mount was also denied by the goalkeeper to force a corner kick after Lukaku played him in but his shot wasn't good enough to beat the goalkeeper.

Lukaku finally broke the deadlock in the 28th minute with his first start and his 2nd goal in 2 games already. He brilliantly connected with a lovely corner kick delivery and after shaking off his marker, Maupay, he glanced his header into the back of the net to give Chelsea fans something to cheer about.

The game changed so quickly and Chelsea went on the back foot with Brighton asking Chelsea most of the questions. They were half chances here and there but a notable chance from Lallana came after he tested the goalkeeper from close range but such an effort would never threaten Mendy.

Moder had a decent chance in the 47th minute after the ball found him in the box. He managed to stick his foot forward but the resulting attempt was only good enough to drop on the post. Pulisic had a penalty shout waved for play on by the referee as well which means Chelsea wouldn't have to extend their lead.

Nothing much came from these two sides but Bissouma had a lovely strike saved by the goalkeeper in the 53rd minute. Maupay also had a lovely chance to draw his side level after dazzling with his feet but his effort was dragged wide. Lallana had another chance and this time it was inside the box but he couldn't keep his effort down as it flew over the bar, shockingly.

The heartbreak came for Chelsea in the 1st minute of added time after Cucurella gave a lofty delivery into the box only for Danny Welbeck to power home his header to give Brighton a deserved 1 point as Chelsea lost more ground against league leaders, Manchester City.

Not looking good for Chelsea and with all these injuries I think we may run into a bad form slump in the new year

I think so too. Chelsea has been struggling of late and it might not get easier in the new year.

that is such a heart breaking last minute goal from Dany Wellbeck. Lets see the result of the coming matches.
City get advantage, as they will face Arsenal without Arteta presence, he is tested positive for covid.

Is it only me or it's everyone that believes that Lukaku was overhyped when he returned?

On another note, the title is still very much open for any of the big boys to win although City is leading with some gap. My very own Liverpool disappointed but such is the game. Chelsea too haven't been doing so well but I think they can do better.

I don't think he was overhyped because he keeps delivering. He can't play midfield and then defend for them at the same time. I think he is doing his job... He has been out of action for a long time now and he has scored 2 goals I
his last 2 appearances.

Chelsea players are tired already hahaha. Tuchel has overused them 😂😂🤣
