Comeback Kings?

France took on Spain after their sensational comeback effort against Belgium and Spain were hoping to get their hands on this trophy but it eluded them this time around as France came from behind again to win 2-1 to lift the trophy in addition to their World Cup trophy. It has been a wonderful experience for France so far and their resilience paved the way for them to get this one over with.

Spain would feel aggrieved especially after coming this close to winning but they were unable to get the job done at the time they needed to. They put up the fight but it wasn't meant to be as France showed resilience, determination and more experience to win this game and lift the UEFA Nations League Cup.

They both had half-decent chances that didn't threaten that much for the larger part of the game as they were both being cautious to commit too much going forward as you'd expect of a final game. Benzema really stepped up when it mattered and he justified his inclusion in the game. What a player he is with his wealth of experience.

Spain started the second half with more intensity and Sarabia had a lovely ball into the box with no player in Spain colours on hand to bundle it home and a huge left off for France. The real chance of the game came in the 63rd minute after Benzema released a short pass for Semi-Final hero: Theo Hernandez inside the box and his shot came off the underside of the crossbar without crossing the line.

Just a few seconds after the nearly conceded, Spain wonderfully took the lead with Oyarzabal in the 64th minute after he was found on the edge of the box and he held his ground before powering a low drive shot into the back of the net leaving Hugo Lloris rooted on the spot. The stadium went wild. The game got a little crazier just 2 minutes after when Karim Benzema was found on the edge of the box and he released a curling effort from that kind of range into the top corner of the net. The goalkeeper got a slight touch but it wasn't enough to deny the brilliance of Benzema's goal. France got level, 1-1.

Mbappe wasted two wonderful chances after the goal with an audacious chip that flew over the bar and a wonderful chance that fell to him inside the box but his finishing let him down as the shot was tame enough to disturb the goalkeeper. In the 80th minute, he made amends for his earlier misses as he rounded the goalkeeper with his footwork to find the back of the net despite the Spanish players screaming for offside. The referee allowed the goal to stand and France heaped more pain on Spain to win the game by 2-1 and be crowned the Champions of UEFA Nations League after Portugal won it the last time.

It was an exciting second half which was better than the first where none of them really threatened and they knew what was at stake and they took the risks to launch forward and they did but there can only be one winner and France it was on the night.

Congratulations to the French national team.

Thank you for your time.
