Game Week 3 Analysis and FPL Update.

20211004_183439.jpg

Week 3 was a week filled with surprises and I have to admit that I didn't see a lot of results coming. What a week it was and this is why we love the Premier League, isn't it?

Tottenham v Wolves.

I was expecting this to be one easy game for Tottenham but it wasn't meant to be. Wolves played with determination so much that Tottenham lost their rhythm. It took the brilliance of Harry Kane to win this game with a solitary point. There are still concerns as to why Wolves always struggle to score a lot of goals.

Everton v Nottingham Forest.

The new boys showed character and they are racking up the points already. I was expecting another win for them because Everton to me, looked like a relegation candidate for sticking with Frank Lampard and with Gordon to be sold next after the exit of Richarlison to Tottenham, I didn't expect much from Everton but it took the brilliance of one man again to get a draw for Everton and that man was Gray as the game ended 1-1.

Leicester City v Southampton.

I don't know what's going on with Leicester City for some seasons now but still, they have suddenly become average. They took the lead with Maddison's brilliant free-kick only for Adams to come off the bench and not only draw his side level but gave them the lead with two goals. He was close to getting his hat trick and the game ended 1-2.

Fulham v Brentford.

This was a game I didn't think too much about. I was expecting a draw at least but Fulham showed they meant business and want to stay in the Premier League with a resounding 3-2 victory. I used Toney in my Fantasy Premier League lineup to replace the red-carded Darwin and he managed to get me 8 points because he scored a goal against Fulham.

Crystal Palace v Aston Villa.

We have to face the reality with Steven Gerrard and stop cutting him some slacks because we didn't extend the same courtesy to Frank Lampard. Aston Villa are struggling so bad but, shockingly, not many people are saying much about him and his team because they have been deceiving us with some good attacking football. This is a result business and this team should be judged accordingly. Crystal Palace won the game by 3-1.

Bournemouth v Arsenal.

This was the game I can say I saw coming because I expected Arsenal to win this game and they did with a 3-0 victory. Arsenal sits pretty at the top of the table being the only team to have won all three of their opening fixtures. I know they will still be reduced down to earth as the season progresses but they deserved the recognition for having such a brilliant start to the season.

West Ham v Brighton.

I expected a draw for this game but West Ham continued their miserable start to the season after they succumbed to 2 well-taken goals against Brighton. David Moyes would need to work his magic again except there is no more magic in his wand.

Leeds United v Chelsea.

I didn't see this coming. Leeds played with more spirit, more determination and assertion. They are a youthful side full of pace and power. They caused Chelsea a lot of problems and their new centre-back signing Koulibaly would miss the next game after receiving a second yellow card late into the game. It's hard to believe that Leeds United beat Chelsea 3-0 with Chelsea unable to score a single goal. What a weekend it was for Leeds and it's good for their morale.

Newcastle United v Manchester City.

If I was a betting guy, I would go with Manchester City winning this game by 3-1 but what a game it was. One of the best so far. Manchester City took the lead through Gundogan only for Newcastle United to race to a 3-1 lead afterwards. City turned up the heat and the game ended 3-3. If you asked Newcastle United to take a draw before the game they would have probably taken it. I totally enjoyed this encounter.

Manchester United v Liverpool.

Another shock of the weekend because I expected Liverpool to win by 4-0 despite not being in the best of shape since the start of the season too. Manchester United turned up the heat - they pressed, recovered second balls and showed intensity with their approach and I was surprised. It was a game that lived up to the expectations and the game ended 2-1 in favour of Manchester United. I saw a different Rashford and Varane with Malacia and Lisandro Martinez showing they have a future at Old Trafford.

Fantasy Premier League.

It was a bad weekend for my Fantasy Premier League. The shocks in the results affected my points hugely. Darwin's red card made me go with Toney since I can't afford Haaland. It was a terrible showing from my fantasy team and this is another setback. I was close to buying Martinelli but I didn't want to be docked 8 points so I just used my free transfer for just one player. I wish I got Martinelli because Saka isn't doing me any justice.

I have been reluctant to take Saka out because this Fantasy Premier League is tricky. Just when you transfer one player out that's when they will start performing at their best. I felt the same with Odegaard and Bernado and I was filled with regret. I think I will just stick with my guns going forward and hope for the best from the players I've selected. I am not happy with the points I got this week 3 at all. I need a miracle to make up for the 3 weeks I've been getting low points.

I've added Martinelli to my team for game week 4 and I would see what I can do again as the week progresses.

Thank you for your time.

I agree with you. People aren't talking about how woeful Gerrard has been at Aston Villa but they attack Lampard at every given opportunity. It's been a few on and several offs for Villa since he took over.

Gameweek 3 should be named "The surprises abode" . So many shocking results. Manchester united, New castle and Leeds were at the fore front dishing the surprises. Hopefully Gameweek 4 will even be more exciting.

My fpl wasn't that great too, the global average was 48 and i got 50. My defenders all gave me binary numbers-1,0. It's frustrating and i don't even know which player to get right now.

It's confusing to know which player to get right now. It's tough but I made sure I added Martinelli to my list before Darwin will come back from suspension.

It was a week of surprises but I enjoyed Manchester United more 😂😂🤣🤣😂😂😂. My wonderful team hahahaha.

They need to keep the same energy they are giving Lampard to Gerrard. He's having it too easy at Villa.

Wolves' continuous struggle for goals under Bruno Lage is a stuff of legends. They always play well and create chances, only to end games without scoring a single goal.

I wrote an article on Read about impending trouble for stagnating Leicester before the season started. The season has proceeded as I expected for them. They are in a serious mess, with their best players wanting out.

That's true. Wolves would play so well and still not find the back of the net. I'm always surprised.

Leicester City, they are struggling really bad and I see it continue for a while... It's a matter of time before Maddison leaves too.

I've always loved watching Wolves because of the quality that team has. Having made their club the abode of Portuguese players - just like Vieira made Crystal Palace the domain of black players - their intricate play always interest me. But, their intricate play always leads to chances that are horribly shanked wide. They tore Tottenham to shreds in the first half only to lose the game without scoring. That's no longer a surprise.

Maddison to Newcastle; Fofana to Chelsea; Tielemans to Arsenal. If these transfers happen Leicester will crash and burn. Harvey Barnes, Perreira and Ndidi are always a tackle away from the treatment room, Vardy is old and tired, Iheanacho and Daka stalled, Ward looks like U-23 goalkeeper. Their is no respite for Rodgers right now.

Absolutely... Wolves play exciting football but it's shocking how they always fire blank... I watched how they schooled Tottenham with nothing to show for it.

If those transfers go through, that's the end for Leicester and there is nothing even Rodgers can do about it.

I've watched Rodgers since his days at Swansea, that guy has got it. What has surprised me so far is the fact no big team has come for him. That guy narrowly lost out on the EPL title with above average and ageing players. He deserves more than a Leicester team with no serious ambition.

I have to agree with you. I love how his team sets up to play. True...you made me remember Swansea... He's being underrated, no doubt. He tried his bit at Liverpool though.

He made Sturridge play like he was Messi at Liverpool. That Liverpool squad had an ageing Gerrard playing from the defensive midfield position effectively. I was hoping Man U would sign him to permanently replace Solksjaer, but it seems top English clubs are shying away from British teams in recent years.

I doubt he would want to go to Manchester United based on his affiliation with Liverpool. I can imagine the cold reception they gave Benitez when he switched camps.

Benitez is a mid-level manager with just the miraculous 2005 and 2006 triumphs to show. He was never really respected, hence the backlash. Mourinho has managed three EPL teams, two in London and no one really made a fuss about it.

Rodgers being British will rouse tensions, but he wasn't totally iconic at Liverpool to the point where he will worry about his reputation. Some people didn't even know he coached Liverpool.

Hahaha that's so true about Benitez though and for Mourinho too, you are absolutely spot on. He is still respected and no one raised a fuss about Mourinho...that's so true.

😂😂🤣😂🤣 Funny enough, it's true... Most people don't even know he coached Liverpool. I like his game play...

I actually know Leicester will suffer for missing two wonderful opportunities. They lost the Champions League spot to Man U (2020) and Spurs (2021) on the last day of the season right in front of their fans. Just imagine how big they would've been by now if they played two consecutive Champions League seasons. Players will be begging to play for them, they will be hugely popular and revenue will be off the chart.

Spurs can afford to buy as much as they want now because they know Champions League revenue will cover up. Also, players want to participate in that tournament. That's the difference between signing above average players like Patson Daka and very good ones like Richarlison.

This is so true. Now, Fofana left and joined Chelsea. This team would have a lot of their players poached. I feel sorry for Brendan.

Once Brendan leaves that team they will be back to relegation strugglers. The board are not doing well. I knew something was up when Schmeichel left.

It's absolutely tricky and fishy. They will struggle if he leaves. He is the one still holding that team together.

Despite the return of Manchester City with a score and a draw of 3.3 ... but I did not see a team that embarrassed this city like what Newcastle did in the first half in particular.....

Also, the Newcastle fans and stadium were a great pressure factor on the opponent and a very strong motivator for the players.....
If there had been a result other than this tie, it would have been a Newcastle win.

I have to agree...what Newcastle United did, they deserved to win this game. They totally messed up Manchester City and I was left in awe. See the freekick from Trippier 😂😂😂🤣😂. What a goal.
