Everyone expected this clash to be another epic one due to the rivalry between the two sides. No one can deny the amazing work Tuchel has done with his Chelsea side while Pep's side can never be ruled out as evident with how they were consistent with their title-winning season, last season.

Tuchel met with Pep's City thrice and won every time and City knew they had to be at their best especially with a new look Chelsea with the addition of Romelu Lukaku in their ranks. It was a cagey affair but City edged it, thanks to Gabriel Jesus strike to hand City the vital three points at a crucial time in their season.

With Chelsea losing, United's dropped points against Villa and Liverpool's draw with Brentford, it was a vital win for Pep's side and finally, he got one over Thomas Tuchel but Chelsea shouldn't be fazed by it since it's still a long way to go in the season for all involved.

Chelsea dominated the early exchanges with Timo Werner being deployed on the left-hand side. He managed to run with the ball but his attempt at picking out Lukaku was lacking. The first attempt almost got to Lukaku but Lukaku was expertly blocked off and another attempt got to Werner but rather than pick out Lukaku, he went for the shot himself and his effort was blocked for a corner kick by Kyle Walker.

City almost caught Chelsea with a direct corner kick but Mendy was alert to it to parry it away to safety. City started showing it won't be as easy for Chelsea as it was in recent times when Grealish found Rodri at the edge of the box and Rodri's shot was blocked for a corner kick by Rudiger. Not too long after, Foden brilliantly found Gabriel Jesus in the box and his chest control was brilliant but his finishing was awful as he skied the ball right inside the box. It was a horrible miss from a chance like that even though he didn't wrap his foot on the ball so well.

City finally got the lead in the 53rd minute after Juan Cancelo's strike was deflected into the path of Gabriel Jesus inside the box. He managed to turn with so many people around him and he caught Mendy napping as the ball found its way into the back of the net with nothing Mendy could do about it.

Grealish almost added the second goal after he drove into the box and with little space, he managed to strike the ball from a tight angle but Mendy managed to get a hand on it. It was so close. Gabriel Jesus could have gotten his second goal too after a loose ball found him inside the box. With the goalkeeper clearly beaten, he strokes the ball home but the timely clearance on the line by Thiago Silva saved the day for Chelsea.

Havertz found Lukaku and the latter easily tuck the ball into the empty net with the hope he has drawn Chelsea level only for the linesman to flag offside against Havertz. It was a correct call because he was like a yard offside.

Lukaku's holding off game came alive again for Chelsea as he held the ball and gave it to Kovacic who would have thought that was his moment to score if not for the bravery of Ruben Dias who deflected it for a corner kick. What a timely intervention because that ball looked destined for the back of the net.

Chelsea got their first defeat of the season on their turf against a desperate Manchester City side. It was a lovely encounter between both sides but City edged it.
