La Premier League casi nunca defrauda, y lo hace menos cuando un par de nombres propios de alto calibre - de los que integran el Big Six- se ven las caras. El Arsenal abría las puertas del Emirates Stadium para recibir la visita del todo un Manchester United en una tarde londinense que se antojaba no menos que prometedora y ambas escuadras nos han brindado 90 minutos de un encuentro que ha hecho honor a la esencia de su liga… un partido loco, impredecible y absolutamente vibrante para un final insospechadamente frenético.
Ni Arteta ni ten Hag traicionaron sus estilos, el desarrollo general del partido fue aquel que cualquiera se habría atrevido a imaginar; los Gunners se hicieron de la iniciativa y el United se agazapó en bloque para buscar salir en latigazos a la contra que explotasen los espacios que el conjunto local llegase a ofrecer en el trámite del encuentro; aunque el querer buscarle las espaldas al Arsenal hizo que Lindeloff y Lisandro Martinez combinasen de más Onana a lo que le seguían pelotazos en largo que facilitaban las tareas defensivas de los de Arteta para hacer efervescer la desesperación en el rostro de Erik tn Hag.
The Premier League hardly ever disappoints, and even less so when a pair of high-calibre big names - of the Big Six - come face to face. Arsenal opened the gates of the Emirates Stadium to welcome the visit of Manchester United on a London afternoon that looked no less than promising, and both teams gave us 90 minutes of a match that lived up to the essence of their league... a crazy, unpredictable and absolutely vibrant game for an unsuspectedly frenetic finale.
Neither Arteta nor ten Hag betrayed their styles, and the general development of the match was one that anyone would have dared to imagine; the Gunners seized the initiative and United crouched en bloc to look to hit on the counter to exploit any spaces the home side might offer in the course of the game; But the desire to find Arsenal's back four meant that Lindeloff and Lisandro Martinez combined with more Onana, followed by long balls that facilitated Arteta's defensive duties to make Erik Tn Hag's face fizz with despair.

El Arsenal, por su parte, buscaba -en posesión de la pelota- ser mucho más incisivo en la construcción de sus ataques, la impronta inequivoca de Mikel Arteta en el fútbol del conjunto londinense se hacía absolutamente palpable sobre la grama del Emirates; pero el conjunto local no encontraba los caminos para traducir esa sensación de dominio en una ventaja en el marcador; la más clara para los Gunners llegó en los pies de Havertz que pidió su remate al abanicar la pelota, ahogando así el grito de su hinchada.
Todo explotó al minuto 27, cuando el United encontró por fin la manera de clarificar su planteamiento a la contra; ten Hag y los suyos estaban jugando al error del rival -casi ningún equipo en Inglaterra lo hace mejor que ellos-, y al fin lo encontraron, una relampagueante transición en la que Christian Eriksen echó a andar a Marcus Rasford en el espacio largo, los Red Devils iban a abrir el marcador con un estruendoso zapatazo cruzado que Ramsdale alcanzó a arañar pero no supo detener. 0-1 en favor del United cortesía de Rashford que sigue probando su valía absoluta en las transiciones ofensivas.
Arsenal, for their part, sought - in possession of the ball - to be much more incisive in the construction of their attacks, the unmistakable imprint of Mikel Arteta on the London side's football was absolutely palpable on the Emirates pitch; but the home side could not find the means to translate that sense of dominance into a lead on the scoreboard; the clearest chance for the Gunners came at the feet of Havertz who asked for his shot when he fanned the ball, thus drowning out the screams of his supporters.
It all exploded in the 27th minute, when United finally found a way to clarify their approach on the counter; ten Hag and his side were playing the opposition's mistake - hardly any team in England does it better than them - and they finally found it, a flashing transition in which Christian Eriksen teed up Marcus Rasford in long space, the Red Devils were to open the scoring with a thunderous cross-shot that Ramsdale managed to claw away but failed to stop. 0-1 in United's favour courtesy of Rashford who continues to prove his absolute worth in attacking transitions.
Pero ni un suspiro le duró la alegría a los Red Devils -ni a su feligresía presente en las gradas del Emirates-, pues con inmediatez absoluta, el Arsenal combinó por el andarivel izquierdo al minuto 28, el pase de Eddie Nketiah encontró al siempre punzante e inteligente Gabriel Martinelli que cedió dentro del área para la llegada de Odegaard y su tremenda pegada que sacudía toda alegría del rostro del conjunto visitante en cuestión de segundos. Y así terminaría un primer tiempo que contó con un minuto de absoluto estruendo futbolístico y 44’ más de una tensión absoluta que no llevó a ningún sitio.
El segundo tiempo tuvo un poco de todo, pero nada como en los minutos finales; casi al cimplirse la hora de juego, se había pitado un inexistente penalti sobre Kai Havertz -que no ha terminado por brillar desde que se enfundó la casaca Gunner- pero tras la revisión en el VAR, el colegiado enmendó el camino pues el alemán cayó de nada en el área de Onana. El Arsenal era amo y señor de la pelota pero sus posesiones eran prácticamente inocuas, con la salvedad de un atajadón con el pie que Onana hubo de realizar a un remate a bocajarro por parte de Bukayo Saka; ten Hag seguía sintiéndose cómodo con su plan de resistencia.
But the Red Devils - and their fans in the stands at the Emirates - were not to be cheered for a moment as, with absolute immediacy, Arsenal combined down the left flank in the 28th minute, Eddie Nketiah's pass found the always sharp and intelligent Gabriel Martinelli who laid it off inside the box for Odegaard and his tremendous strike that wiped the joy off the visitors' faces in a matter of seconds. And so ended a first half that featured a minute of absolute footballing din and 44 minutes of absolute tension that went nowhere.
The second half had a bit of everything, but nothing like the final minutes; almost on the hour mark, a non-existent penalty had been called on Kai Havertz - who hasn't really shone since donning the Gunner's shirt - but after a VAR review, the referee made amends as the German went down for nothing in Onana's area. Arsenal were masters of the ball but their possessions were largely innocuous, save for Onana's save with his foot from a Bukayo Saka close-range effort; ten Hag remained comfortable with their plan of resistance.

Y la resistencia Mancuniana estuvo a punto de surtir efecto en una nueva contra de manual que los Red Devils habían montado tras la pérdida de balón de Gabriel Jesus, combinó rápida y arteramente el United para propulsar la carrera de Garnacho que definía ante Ramsdale pero aquello no contó por milímetros pues Gabriel Magalhaes hizo una perfecta salida al fuera de juego cuando supo que no tenía más opción que ello, una lectura defensiva tan impecable como invaluable que sostenía con vida al conjunto Gunner justo cuando todo parecía visto para una dolorosa derrota en casa al minuto 89.
Y de aquel susto casi mortal que se llevó la feligresía del Emirates, el Arsenal provocó un pandemónium; un córner botado por Bukayo Saka encontró a segundo palo a Declan Rice que mató aquella pelota con el pecho y fusiló a Onana al palo corto ayudado por un desvío de Jonny Evans; 2 a 1 lo ganaba el Arsenal al minuto 96’ en una montaña rusa de emociones que terminó por estallar al minuto 101’ de las hostilidades, pues el Arsenal dio cuenta de un United desfondado en busca del empate aplicando una cucharada de sus propia medicina al cuadro visitante, contragolpe a velocidad con el que Gabriel Jesus se internó en el área para, acto seguido, plantarle un recorte taurino a Diogo Dalot y hacerle pasar de largo en la barrida, quedando solo para definir a placer el 3-1 definitivo.
El Arsenal de Arteta practica un futbol de autor, es un equipo punzante e incisivo que se gusta de tener la pelota y buscar los espacios por el exterior y, además, es tan resiliente que ya ha hecho de la épica una forma de vida; los Gunners parecen tener más vidas que un gato y se declaran listos para volver a competir por la Premier esta temporada.
And the Mancunian resistance was about to take effect in another textbook counter that the Red Devils had set up after Gabriel Jesus had lost the ball, United combined quickly and cleverly to set up Garnacho to run on to Ramsdale but that missed the target by millimetres as Gabriel Magalhaes made a perfect offside save when he knew he had no choice but to do so, A defensive reading as impeccable as it was priceless that kept the Gunners alive just when everything looked set for a painful home defeat in the 89th minute.
And from that near-death scare for the Emirates faithful, Arsenal caused pandemonium; a Bukayo Saka corner found Declan Rice at the far post who chested the ball down and fired past Onana at the near post, aided by a deflection off Jonny Evans; 2-1 Arsenal were 2-1 up in the 96th minute in a rollercoaster of emotions that finally exploded in the 101st minute of hostilities, as Arsenal took a deflated United side in search of an equaliser by giving the visitors a spoonful of their own medicine, with Gabriel Jesus racing into the box on a counter-attack and then planting a taurine cut-back past Diogo Dalot and sweeping the ball past him, leaving him alone to slot home for the 3-1 lead.
Arteta's Arsenal play a brand of football, they are a sharp, incisive side who like to have the ball and look for space out wide, and they are so resilient that they have already made epicness a way of life; the Gunners seem to have more lives than a cat and look set to challenge for the Premiership again this season.
