La UEFA Champions League es ecléctica y vibrante a partes iguales, eso ya lo sabe el Real Madrid que tiene en esta competición a su máximo fetiche, y eso lo ha descubierto hoy el Union Berlin que se ha plantado en, nada menos, que el Estadio Santiago Bernabéu para jugar el primer partido de su historia en la máxima competición de clubes a nivel global contra, nada menos que, el club de fútbol que más veces la ha conquistado, el Real Madrid Club de fútbol. Día histórico para el conjunto berlinés que a punto estuvo de llevarse un dulce punto como botín en su debut sentado a la mesa de los más grandes de Europa.
Si alguien pensaba que los dirigidos por Urs Fischer iban a ser un flan para los Merengues, se equivocó rotundamente en aquella disparatada preconcepción. El Union Berlin no es un equipo improvisado, saben lo que buscan y tienen muy claras las vías para llegar a ello. Su propuesta en el Bernabéu era primar el orden a ultranza para buscar salir con un empate de la capital madrileña a la que más de 5,000 de sus hinchas hicieron el viaje para disfrutar de su histórica primera noche de Champions; Fischer y sus muchachos casi consiguen el cometido, de no haber sido por la buena estrella que tiene el Real Madrid y, sobre todo, Jude Bellingham desde que se calzó la elástica merengue y es que -citando a Nacho- Jude parece haber nacido para ser jugador del Real Madrid.
Fischer sembró, sobre la grama del renovado Teatro de la Castellana, un 3-5-2 que más que proponer un cerrojo, daba la impresión de ser la mismísima representación futbolística del muro de Berlín y aquello representó no menos que un acertijo de altísima complejidad para el ataque del Real Madrid que, como ha venido demostrando en este arranque de temporada, va muy corto de gol; lo sabe Ancelotti, lo saben los propios jugadores y lo sabe la feligresía del Bernabéu, a los Blancos les está faltando pólvora por mucho que el fichaje de Joselu haya sido un acierto.

Fischer set up, on the pitch of the renovated Teatro de la Castellana, a 3-5-2 formation which, rather than being a defensive formation, gave the impression of being the very footballing representation of the Berlin Wall and that represented no less than a highly complex puzzle for Real Madrid's attack which, as they have been demonstrating at the start of the season, is very short of goals; Ancelotti knows it, the players themselves know it and the Bernabéu faithful know it, Los Blancos are lacking in firepower, even if the signing of Joselu has been a success.

El órden a ultranza propuesto por Fischer y la falta de pólvora en los de Ancelotti generaron el caos perfecto en la puesta en escena del Bernabéu, como cuando se juntan el hambre y las ganas de comer. Los de Ancelotti sufrieron mucho para encontrar el camino, sobre todo, en una primera mitad muy plana en la que el fútbol combinativo no fluía entre las compactas líneas de aquella piña que era el conjunto visitante en su zona baja. El Madrid parece estar abonándose a la inquietante costumbre de desperdiciar la primera mitad del encuentro para buscar emplearse a fondo en los segundos 45 minutos y, entonces sí, cumplir con los históricos deberes intrínsecos en su etiqueta de equipo grande.
Vimos, entonces, en el Bernabéu un partido desigual, con un Madrid terminó sucumbiendo a los deseos y planteamiento de su debutante huésped en la primera parte, pero en la segunda recompuso el camino, impuso otro ritmo a la pelota y con ello comenzó a generar una amplia variedad de ocasiones que sabrá Dios cómo es que no rompían ese cero al que se había sujetado “el Muro de Berlín” de Fischer a manera de cimientos para soñar con puntuar en su primer gran noche europea.
Fischer's total order and Ancelotti's team's lack of firepower created the perfect chaos at the Bernabéu, as when hunger and the desire to eat come together. Ancelotti's side struggled to find a way through, especially in a flat first half in which the combination football did not flow between the compact lines of the visitors in their lower half. Madrid seem to be subscribing to the unsettling habit of wasting the first half of the game in order to look for the best in the second 45 minutes and then, yes, fulfil the historic duties intrinsic to their tag of being a big team.
We saw, then, an uneven match at the Bernabéu, with Madrid succumbing to the desires and approach of their debutant hosts in the first half, but in the second half they got back on track, imposed a different rhythm on the ball and with it began to generate a wide variety of chances that God knows how they did not break that zero to which Fischer's "Berlin Wall" had been held as a foundation for dreaming of scoring on their first big European night.
La morfología en el planteamiento del Real Madrid de Ancelotti ha cambiado por culpa de una sola pieza, se fue Karim Benzema -un hueco nada fácil de cubrir- y ha llegado Jude Bellingham -una estrella en ciernes- a quien hay que arropar desde el pizarrón táctico con miras a que su despliegue técnico pueda florecer; así ha sido y ello es un acierto brutal de Carletto, a quien la expresión “viejo lobo de mar” le viene a quedar sumamente corta.
Que Bellingham tiene estrella y ha aterrizado con el pie derecho en Chamartín es tan innegable como que Luka Modric -a sus 38 años- sigue ofreciendo las respuestas a todas las preguntas que puedan existir en la oncena blanca; aunque si algo echo en falta, el conjunto de Ancelotti durante los primeros compases del encuentro fue la sapiencia y solvencia que ofrece el pensante cerebro de Toni Kroos como maestro de orquesta, fue entrar el bastión germano a la cancha y que al Madrid le cambiase el pálido rostro de la primera parte.
La tremendamente buena organización del conjunto de Fischer, que probó ser sólido como el acero de -casi- todo equipo alemán, complicaba la noche al Real Madrid que iba encontrando ocasiones que no terminaban de concretarse fuera por mediación del comandante en jefe de la defensa germana en la longeva y experimentada figura de Leo Bonucci, por mediación, si no, del arquero danés Frederik Rønnow o, por mediación -en ultimísima instancia- de los postes en un par de ocasiones. El Madrid buscaba la manera de derribar a un muro que le estaba siendo infranqueable.
