Las bengalas se encienden, el clima en el graderío está a punto de ebullición en el Estadio Alten Försterei mientras un grupo de futbolistas nada celebres corren agitando los brazos por el terreno de juego en clara señal de victoria, no una cualquiera, acababan de concretar el ascenso a la Bundesliga por primera vez en su historia. La hinchada desbordó las rejas y pasó al campo dejando una estela de humo blanco y rojo que bien podía haber cubierto la capital alemana al completo aquella noche.
Flares are lit, the atmosphere in the stands is at boiling point at the Alten Försterei Stadium as a group of uncelebrated footballers run waving their arms around the pitch in a clear sign of victory - not just any victory, they had just clinched promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time in their history-. The fans overflowed the barriers into the pitch, leaving a trail of red and white smoke that could well have covered the entire German capital that night.

La hinchada suele ser el alma de un equipo, esta premisa, está llevada al extremo en el Unión Berlín, pues tras la caída del muro, el equipo estaba sumergido en una enorme crisis financiera que más allá de cualquier rendimiento deportivo les impedía optar a ascender de categoría.
The fans are usually the heart and soul of a team, a premise taken to the extreme at Union Berlin, because after the fall of the wall, the team was plunged into a huge financial crisis which, beyond any sporting performance, prevented them from being promoted to the next division.
'Eisern Union' traducido al castellano es: “Unión de Hierro”, es el himno que entona una fanaticada que ha decidido incluso “sangrar” por su club; estos hinchas llevan la palabra “Unión”, que da nombre a su club, a lo más profundo del concepto. En el año 2004, cuando peor se encontraba la siempre golpeada economía del equipo, la iniciativa 'Bleed for Union' (Sangra por el Unión) tuvo lugar. Los aficionados decidieron donar sangre y así recaudar dinero con el fin de reducir la deuda del equipo.
Eisern Union', translated into English as 'Iron Union', is the anthem sung by a fan base that has even decided to 'bleed' for their club; these supporters take the word 'Union', which gives their club its name, to the very core of the concept. In 2004, when the team's ever-stricken economy was at its worst, the 'Bleed for Union' initiative took place. Fans decided to donate blood and thus raise money in order to reduce the team's debt.

Years later, financial problems were still a handicap for the Berlin club, and their stadium was in dire straits, so for the 2007-08 season, more than 2,300 of the club's fans turned into construction workers to help their team in the refurbishment of their stadium and in the second phase of the refurbishment, they issued 500 euro shares in order to finance the entire project.
Un equipo que vive el futbol de otra manera, que sobrevivió en los duros tiempos de la República Democrática Alemana durante la Guerra Fría y compitió contra un Dynamo Berlín que se veía favorecido por la política de la época; un club que es más bien una enorme y humilde familia en la nada es impedimento para el amor por los colores.
A team which lives football in a different way, which survived the hard times of the German Democratic Republic during the Cold War and competed against a Dynamo Berlin which was favoured by the politics of the time; a club which is more like a huge and humble family in which nothing stands in the way of the love for the colours.
