RE: Morning Run: Daffs

We have an inverter that works on a plug point, but it is limited to only 2 hours of support during the power cuts. I am also thinking about installing solar, but we will have to save up a long time for it.

Our solar cannot work when the mains is off, but if you have it on a separate circuit then it should not an issue. You would have to see what the payback time is. It could save you money as well as covering the power cuts. We should be feeding a lot of power to the grid, but are waiting for them to pay us for it. That takes a while to sort out.

Luckily our inverter runs on a lithium battery and it works when the mains are off, but like I said, only for 2 hours. We also have the payback scheme here, when one feeds extra power into the grid, and I have designed the solar system to feed at least 50% back in, but it's the start up capital that we don't have yet.

Some solar companies offer loans, but we are allergic to debt, and so we will just continue to save until we have enough.

We had the funds for our system and it seems like a good long term investment, but then it is something we wanted to do anyway.

Yep! It is indeed an excellent investment with great savings in long run.
