Luckily our inverter runs on a lithium battery and it works when the mains are off, but like I said, only for 2 hours. We also have the payback scheme here, when one feeds extra power into the grid, and I have designed the solar system to feed at least 50% back in, but it's the start up capital that we don't have yet.
Some solar companies offer loans, but we are allergic to debt, and so we will just continue to save until we have enough.

We had the funds for our system and it seems like a good long term investment, but then it is something we wanted to do anyway.
Yep! It is indeed an excellent investment with great savings in long run.
