Intensity would be the word that would best describe what we saw today at Anfield. I was fortunate to witness a match overloaded with emotions and an almost unreal pace of play, where the need for points was the main factor that pushed both teams to leave everything on the field. On the one hand Liverpool; the home team that was coming from a terrible start of the Premier League, although last week they warned, with a 9-0 crushing against Bournemouth, that the sleeping giant might have woken up. On the other hand, Newcastle; a club that had remained unbeaten so far in the competition, but with only one win (and three consecutive draws). This time the never-solo walkers achieved the conquest in the last minute; however, they are still far from the best version of Liverpool of previous months.

The Reds were definitely not the best team in the first half. Despite having a hard-fought first 15 minutes, the visitors were gradually encouraged to go for goal, to the point that, at 17', Ryan Fraser almost opened the scoring. It didn't take much longer for the Magpies to score, however, as Alexander Isak, a Real Sociedad player in previous years, made his dream debut in the Premier League against Liverpool at Anfield and gave his team the lead. A win would have been a historic debut, given that Newcastle have never won away to Liverpool in the league. But goals from Roberto Firmino ('61) and Fábio Carvalho ('90+8) ended up spoiling the Swede's night.

Special mention must go to Jürgen Klopp who, as usual, understood the game and made the right triple substitution at 71', including the introduction of the hero of the day, Carvalho. With that action, the German coach's message was clear: Liverpool would play to win. From that point on, the match, until then disputed and without an undisputed dominator, became more and more red, while Edward Howe's team withdrew more and more. A big mistake when you face Mohamed Salah, something that the number 11 has already demonstrated in dozens of previous matches. This time was no exception and he passed the bill to the worn-out Newcastle with the assists for both goals (with much more intent on the first than the second). Wherever you leave space for Salah to do damage, he will surely do it.

And not only him, because Liverpool has an attacking trio to be feared. The Egyptian and Firmino went from strength to strength, one on the right flank and the other through the middle, as we are accustomed to. It was only a matter of time before one of these two scored the equalizer. On the other hand, the man on the left flank, Luis Diaz, was the opposite. He started as one of the most active players on the field. At 33', had he controlled the ball well after a filtered pass, he could have been the one to score the first goal of the match. Although he had a decent performance, his fire was extinguished as the clock ticked down and I have the feeling that he could have been substituted before the final whistle. Had Liverpool not won, some of the criticism would probably have been more pronounced against the Colombian.

Despite taking the three points, the red devils game still leaves a strange aftertaste, something I've picked up from previous games. I hope this is not misunderstood. This was a great game in every sense of the word. However, Liverpool's execution is still less than expected. I fear that, if they don't correct quickly, this could be a difficult season.
