Introducing Our New Editor – Powered by Tiptap
Hey PeakD Users!!
We’re super excited to share a big update we’ve been working on for a while: a brand new rich visual text editor for your favorite decentralized social media app and with some time and creativity we built on the Tiptap framework! We were able to Customize it to work on the Hive blockchain experience.
We know many of you have gotten very used to doing your own markdown formatting on posts over the years. However it's a unique skillset and we want a system that works for people from all walks of life. Maybe you will enjoy it yourself.
What’s New?
The new editor is designed to feel effortless but powerful whether you’re crafting long-form content or sharing quick updates. It combines the best of WYSIWYG editing with Markdown support, all in a clean, block-based interface that works beautifully on both desktop and mobile.
Here’s what you can now do with our upgraded editor:
- Clean and minimal writing experience
- Optimized for mobile 📱 – post from anywhere, easily
- Future default on mobile – This editor is set to replace the current mobile editor, so now’s the perfect time to get familiar
- Block-based editing with dynamic menus – intuitive, contextual controls appear when and where you need them
- Dynamic floating toolbar 🛠️ – lightweight, always within reach
- Easy drag-and-drop ↕️ – reorder content blocks with a simple drag
- WYSIWYG with Markdown support – write with formatting or use plain text/Markdown, both just work
Fun options like tables and so much more
And we’re just getting started…
Why Tiptap?
Tiptap is an open-source editor framework we chose because it’s:
- Modular and highly customizable
- Flexible enough to customize for Hive needs
- We could grow it and customize it with your feedback and Hive-specific needs
- Perfect for combining the best of WYSIWYG and Markdown workflows
- Built with performance and extensibility in mind
Still in Development
The new editor is live and ready, but it’s also still improving. That means:
- We’re actively polishing and improving based on your feedback
- You might encounter a few bugs or rough edges
- Your voice directly helps shape the writing experience on PeakD!

Try It Out!
Head over to the post creation screen and click no the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
Select in the menu the VISUAL option
The menu has memory on your device and should remember next time you work on a post.
You can even choose to not see the preview side by side since it's not really needed for the VISUAL EDITOR
For this choose "Use top-down preview"

I tried it out, but when I mark a word as bold in the editor, like here:
it shows it wrongly:
Similarly with italic. Not always, but sometimes, which does not make the editor faster than the old one, at least for now.
yeah keep sharing any situations you encounter. (I haven't experienced that myself so i didn't know) We will make it great for all the new users that come to Hive.

That is very useful for new users, for sure. Much like the text editors they've been used to. It's great that both PeakD and Ecency added a visual editor.

Great update and peakd is one of the smooth and easy to use front end. I like using it a lot. With this new editor, posting must be even more fun
Very cool! I will have to give it a try. I've grown accustomed to my current templates for posting but always look forward to trying something new and expanding my horizons.
The constant upgrades and development of this project makes it one of the best on HIVE.
Just played around a bit - when i'm using the blockquote - and mark the text to the right, the options are cut off - and on the visual right side the text is not right aligned - which is fine - because the quote never is right sided.

That's why @peakd is my favorite way to enjoy all of HIVE
New and different content positively affects the development and change process of the platform we use. In particular, sharing writing instantly wherever we are not in front of the computer and where we get inspiration, and the opportunity to write with practical and understandable ease without time constraints will be a great experience and gain for writers.

Please don't deprecate the old editor. I absolutely feel crippled by block editors. They feel so slow (because I'm old) and am used to seeing all the options be available at once, or like to do my formatting after I've written my post, as opposed to as I go.
We don't plan to remove the old editor 👍

iswas awesome... though today i'm quicker with writing it out. :smirk: - Now, my two cents:Since there are quite possibly more folks to use a WYSIWYG, 'cause not being too deep into coding, i would think it to be more efficient that the editor is already in WYSIWYG mode, with the preview down, as you suggested. Dev's and Coder's find the "simple" editor easier then the laymen out there... i "hear". Or have an easy switch icon, instead of going into the three dot menu...
Also, i agree with some comments, to never get rid of the already existing, pretty please! #justSaying
PeakD will remember the latest editor you used. So it should open that one by default the next time you start working on a post.

Yeah, made a quick test and had some issues on the iPhone
Wrote a title and a „Headline“
But whenever I click to write something, the editing section gets quite small.
I love to see the daily growth on the Hive blockchain. This is great. I tried to use the new video feature on Snaps 2 days ago, the video embedded but couldn't play, so I inserted the video link in the snap editor and snapped it.
This is a cool update.
