Incredible journey of Czech national basketball team to Summer Olympics

Hi there my Hivean friends and followers!

The EURO 2020 tournament is now over and I have finally more time and free slots in my blogging schedule for new posts. I hope you enjoyed all the EURO 2020 tipping challenges that I prepared for you but it´s good to have some room for sharing current topical stuff and random freewrites with you again.

Now are you fan of those kind of stories where a complete outsider beats all the odds and achieves something absolutely incredible and unexpected? I am and I am super excited to share such a story with you today because this story is actually about our (Czech) national basketball team.

There is just one really famous player in our current squad and that is Tomas Satoransky, who is also the only NBA player in the team (Tomas currently plays for the Chicago Bulls). The rest of our national team is mostly made up of players from the Czech league and some other European leagues. But what our national team might lack in renown, it greatly makes up for in dedication, resilience and team spirit and we have just seen an amazing example of these qualities being put into action. Our team had the chance to participate in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. After finishing second in the group, the Czech team advanced to the play off stage where they shocked the entire basketball world by beating the NBA stars packed national team of Canada and then, in the final, Satoransky and his teammates hammered Greece (one of the strongest European teams), claiming their spot in the very final Olympic tournament in Japan.

The qualifying run of the Czech national team was so shocking and unexpected that even the players and coaches themselves had to quickly change their plans for the summer because they didn´t really count on the possibility that they could actually qualify for the Olympics against such strong competition.

The last time that our national team was at the Summer Olympics was in 1980 (Moscow) but it was not even technically our national team because back then, we still used to be a part of Czechoslovakia so this will be the very first time that a purely Czech national team will be representing our country at the Olympics. We are so proud of what these guys have already achieved and we cannot wait to see how they will do at the tournament. We were drawn into the Group A where we will meet France, Iran and - most excitingly - the USA! :)

S Jirkou Procházkou a MMA jsem tu nedávno moc nepochodil, ale věřím, že nějaké fanoušky basketu tady určitě máme. Sledovali jste tu neuvěřitelnou cestu našeho nároďáku na Olympiádu? Že by se to v tak obrovské konkurenci mohlo povést nečekali ani sami hráči a trenéři a tak teď musí narychlo měnit své letní plány, protože za pár dní odlétají směr Tokio :) V základní skupině na nás kromě Francie a Íránu čeká taky favorit všech favoritů - americký dream team v čele s největšími hvězdami NBA a já už se nemůžu dočkat, až si to s nimi naši kluci rozdají :)
