My Actifit Report Card: March 10 2022

Monday morning, the seventh of March of 2022...

Again, I would like to make it a respectful routine, so, before I start I would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land I stand, work, live and was doing my physical activity once again. And pay my respects to the Elders, past, present and future aboriginal and Torres straight islanders. I just would like to ensure that it has no political connotation at all, it is just a way to pay my respect to the place I live and love and the people that looked after it for hundreds of centuries.

Started a little later than usual but not too bad still early in the morning l, around 6 am. It was a kind of a bad call as the temperature was way too hot for this time of the year. And the humidity... oh this Queensland humidity... it was around 94% in the early hours of the day.

That's the photo of the first thing I could see just outside of my building. Pretty great day, just by looking at the photo, you could never tell that 10 hours before that we had a massive storm. The storm last for only two hours, but was very intense and the soil was extremely saturated for thar extra water to be absorbed quickly. Photos will be posted later on from the track and its effects.

A beautiful round about with the trees in the middle. That's the one from the Broadwater parklands tourist park. A well located place to stop over if you are traveling around with your camper van or camping around Australia along the coast, you are right in front of the water and beside the park. There are many options for the kids to play. Plenty of playgrounds and even a little rock pool. If you are an adult, you got many options as well. There is the Gold Coast aquatic centre where you can just pay for one day, without the need of a membership. You can also take a ferry from one of the pontoons or little wharf to visit some locations around the Gold Coast through the channels. If you are very sporty and active you can enjoy the water by renting a kayak and just row to wherever you feel like. You can swim within the netted area right beside the life guards, without the fear of being attacked by sharks, as the area is known to have the presence of a few bull sharks.
If you are not too active, a jet ski will do the job or even a little boat.

There are so many places available for you to cook your BBQ without any cost. Unlike some places in Sydney where you need to put a coin in to turn the hot plate on, on the coast you will not pay to have your BBQ cooked anywhere. I probably should not be talking it and giving the idea to the council as they are very keen to take your money whenever they see an opportunity, specially regarding car park. Some areas are very competitive and you still need to pay a parking metre. And the paid area has been increasing a lot in the past few years. If you are new to this system, you have to get used to it quickly, otherwise you will get a nasty surprise attached to your windshield wipers. The last one I got was many years ago and I had to pay around 70 dollars for the 5 minutes I parked my car there to grab a coffee.

I was not able to take some photos for a while as the next 2.5km. My apologies but I am not the person who would stop just for the sake of photos for a post and not getting my running done properly. I did not stop even a little bit during my run.

I was able to reduce my pace again when I was approaching the bridge and then I decided to just go for a walk, more like a power walk. So I could focus a little more on the effects of the rain from the previous night.

Gradually reducing the speed along the bridge

On the southern part of the bridge we arrive the Main Beach, still a little far from the open ocean waters, that I normally reach when doing my running, its another one KM towards east. Then as I turned left I took my time to take some more photos, resting for a few seconds at every photo.

Stil going left...

And a bit more under the bridge you can hear the traffic from the cars and the tram over it. It does get a little noisy as the traffic starts to pick up, but it's not too loud.

And passing under that bridge if I follow it a little more I would be heading towards Surfers Paradise. It is no really that close, it would still be a little walk from that point. Alternatively you could just catch the tram and one or two stops later you will arrive the famous Surfers Paradise 🏄‍♂️ 🌊

A nice little view from across the river, getting that building reflection, not as perfect as a mirror, but considering there was a little breeze, that was OK.

One more

Time to return. Reducing my pace to a comfortable but still a little fast, by far the fastest walking person around me at that time at a little over 6 km per hour. Still with a few breaks for photos allowing people to catch up with my pace

And some photos from the bridge, now heading north. There is a little decked area used for fishing with designated rubbish bin for fishing lines and hooks. Whoever thought about it, I take my hat off, as since I have been visiting beaches and other coastal areas I've seen many times the local fauna, especially the birds in dangerous situations with fishing lines around the wing, feet, mouth or head. Now it is up to the population to do the right thing and dispose of their dangerous rubbish in an appropriate way.

As soon as I arrived on Broadwater parklands jogging tracking, the scenery was hinting that a major rain fell recently.

The little side walk was a little wet as well, but it drained faster as the sun was out.

Heading north still, a few more patches of water covered the way, slightly.

Along the walking track we find some these distance and location signs

It was another beautiful day on the coast

But, water was everywhere, again

Right after the aquatic centre, there is this little path that can be a short circuit close to the water. And guess what? Yes, it was wet as well.

Information about the local flora and fauna was displayed in the signs along this little circuit.

And ...

More water...

A bit more now and I'm getting home

Obviously I got my shoes a little wet, but it was very worthy.

Again got some discrepancy between my Strava and the Actifit app, but I made that minimum mark.

See you on the next run 🏃‍♂️ 😉
