Perfume ball in game of Cricket?

India is cricket loving nation. The craze for cricket is so much that, parents gifts bat & ball to their kids before handling over Pen & paper. Everyone loves the sport, and I am not too different. I do not play cricket but I do follow the game passionately. I know ifs and bits of it, but yesterday I learned about a new name which I was not aware of before. It is about Perfume Ball.

I heard of Yorker ball, Bouncer ball, Overpitch, Good Length ball, carrs ball, knuckle balls etc but this new name really made me keep guessing. In so many years, I never heard of this name before. When our games teacher put up this question in our class, nobody is aware of it. So I thought to share in the community as well.

Perfume means, fragrance and if we put some extra weight on mind, we can easily get to know of it. This term is related to a ball which pass near to the face of the Batsman. A kind of bouncer, delivered with high pace and sneaked pass near to the face of the Batsman. This is an unplayable delivery bowl by the baller, and the Batsman unable to read the bowl , even put his bat in front of ball is difficult. As the ball pass through the face it is like just smelling the leather of the ball, as it passes through. Many a times it also refers to ball hunting by many comentator.

As the name signifies, it is about taking the *perfume of the ball. Isn't it interesting. I was too excited to know of this new name.
