Basics Of Delegations - Beginners Mistake

Alright so this would be a slightly different post on finance. Instead of sharing what is going on around the world, I would wish to talk more about what is happening something closer to us, in PeakD.

So if you have been following me, you would realise that recently I am trying my best to let me assets and resources work for me. For tokens, we have curators and delegating to them grants you extra tokens.

However today, I would wish to talk about something else, slightly different. Now recently, I tried to perform delegations through Hive Power (HP).

image.png

How Does It Work?

So, by delegating your Hive Power (HP) to specific account, in return you get some perks such as curation/upvotes, tokens and or liquid Hive daily.

Now this is a snapshot of my HP delegations.

Screenshot 2022-08-09 at 6.15.50 PM.png

Personally, my favourite right now I would say to be @indiaunited as well as @hive.pizza .

Now for just 101HP delegated, @hive.pizza provides me with around 0.5 pizza tokens. Who doesn't like pizzas right? Haha.

Now for @indiaunited, I would say they provide a really good ROI. With just 100 HP delegated, I am receiving around 0.026 Hive a day. Pretty sound in my opinion.

My Mistake

So I wanted to increase my HP delegation to @indiaunited, from 100 HP to 150HP. So what I though would be, just delegate another 50 HP on top of the 100 HP that I have already delegated. Just stack it up right? But nope, wrong....

So what happen is, they remove/expire the previous 100 HP delegations, and substituted it with my existing 50 HP delegation.

Lesson Learnt

So now the lesson learnt is, if I were to increase my delegations, I would have to assign the number that I want, while the previous delegation get refunded back to me. Meaning, I would need more HP capital. Why? Cause I would need to have the amount of HP that I wanted to add on, on top of the existing delegation (capital) that I already delegated.

I hope this post would be helpful for new users as they begin to delegate their HP for more ROI in the future.

Yes, I know right! So I kind of wasted a couple of days without any hive earnings but that's ok! It's always a good learning experience!

And nice job with @indiaunited , by far one of the best ROI so far. Have been actively asking my friends to support too actually! Haha.

My pleasure! I share because it is indeed the one with the highest ROI I have seen so far!

Nevertheless, I do have some issues with the discord side. I am unable to post anything on the #post-promotion. Other than that, @indiaunited is virtually perfect now! Was wondering if anyone would be able to help me out with it

Oh, I always upvote their posts! Just that I'm a bit gundu, don't know who's account is in metafriends! Haha. Like those that I know I actually check in daily to upvote wor! Haha.

Actually, pardon me for being gundu, how does HP correlates to upvotes ah?

The more HP you have, the higher your vote power. You have a lot of HP but the reason why you vote is worth close to zero is because you delegated all of them away. You have more than 400 HP but have delegated away 300 HP, so you are only voting with 100 HP. Using an example, an account voting with 1000 HP will have a vote 10 times compared to an account voting with 100 HP.

oh!!! ok ask you ah, by chance do you have any idea? Cause I was wondering, if delegate out and earn more ROI, I will be able to reap more passive income. But if I were to keep the HP and have increased vote value, I too will have more passive income. Which one in your opinion is better ah?

I literally just learnt about HP so trying to figure things out! Haha

There is no right or wrong answer. Personally, I would rather vote on posts myself and support writers that I like. That's all I will say. :)
