Exploring Wakayama Prefecture : September 23 2025

Another day, another prefecture. Today, we’ll be exploring Wakayama, a beautiful countryside prefecture in the Kansai region. Wakayama is famous for its sacred sites like Mount Koya, the UNESCO-listed Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trails, stunning coastal views, and delicious local produce such as ume (plums) and seafood.

We’re using the JR Kansai WIDE Area Pass, which allows unlimited train travel on JR lines and certain private railways within the Kansai area for five consecutive days. Thanks to this pass, we’re able to hop between prefectures and explore more places conveniently and affordably. From Tottori, Okayama, Hyogo and now Wakayama prefecture. Super sulit!

Tama Station
For our morning itinerary, we rode different themed trains, including a cat-themed one and other beautifully decorated designs. Themed trains in Japan are truly a whole vibe. We also visited a station inspired by cats, where the station masters are actually cats. So cute!

Marina City
In the afternoon, we went to Marina City in Wakayama to visit Kuroshio Market, where we got to witness a live tuna-cutting show and enjoy freshly prepared tuna sushi right after. It was such a unique experience, and I absolutely loved it. The sushi was incredibly fresh and delicious, though a bit pricey at 1,000 yen for just two pieces. Since it wasn’t quite enough, I also got a donburi bowl and finished it off with some ice cream.

We then checked out the nearby theme park, which has free admission. We didn’t ride any attractions since we’re not big fans of heights and the rides were also a little pricey, but we still took some fun shots. Overall, the day was super chill, and I really enjoyed it. The weather was also cooler than in the past few days we didn’t sweat much at all. I can already feel autumn approaching, and I’m so excited for it!

The pictures are all amazing and lovely. Which place is this and why is it that cats pictures are many especially why did they put cat stickers on the train.
