When you learn martial arts, you might underestimate low kicks. We are interested to learn how to do high kicks. You do warm-up and stretching, then practice high kicks. That's great!

You can easily learn low kicks. Of course, to be good at it, you need to spend time to practice. Low kicks are highly effective for self defense.

You can do low kicks in any situation. If you are in a place where you do not have a lot of space, you can do front kick, side kick and back kick but to do a roundhouse kick, you need a little space.

You might have no idea what the attacker is capable of doing. In case the attacker is a good fighter, he can catch your leg when you do high kicks. This is not a fighting match, once the attacker catches your leg, there will be no referee who enforces what can or cannot do, so you might be in big trouble.

The attacker can easily see your high kicks. On the other hand, low kicks are not easy to see. So you can hit the attacker with low kicks. If you do high kicks, the attacker can do something to defend that since you can see it coming.

In case for some reason maybe because of clothes, you cannot raise your leg to do high kicks. When you do low kicks, you do not raise your leg that much. You can execute low kicks effectively.

When you combine your strike with high and low, it is very effective in a fight. You can punch, do palm strike and low kicks. Low kicks are difficult to defend.

So what do you think of low kicks in self defense perspective? Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.

Stay safe. Always be happy!

Low kicks are excellent tools in any self defense arsenal. I started learning Tae Kwon Do which only allows kicks above the waste. When I started MMA and Sanshou through my Kung Fu school I learned the power and versatility of low kicks. They are really effective against larger opponents. Opponents with weapons and you can use them in close quarters. It also takes the steam out of bigger and powerful attackers. If you meet a power punch or fast punch, kick their legs. power and speed come from the legs. Get those out of the equation and you have leveled the playing field.

Different martial art focuses on different things. When it comes to self defense, you only focus is what would be the most effective to protect yourself. Thank you so much @nivekpro for your feedback.
