What You Are Learning, Does That Work?

If you learn any move, can you use it in a fight under pressure? When it is a normal situation and there is no pressure, you can do a lot of things. You are taught this is how you have to do that and you are doing that.

What You Are Learning, Does That Work.jpg

Your training partner follows the rules and reacts the way he is supposed to react. You might get an impression that it will work. Just stop following any rules for the time being and ask your training partner to do whatever he wants.

You might see things are different now. You will know how it would look like if your opponent resists what you are doing. Can you still apply that technique and make it work? If the answer is yes, that's good. Otherwise, that might not work in a fight for self-defense.

The attacker would do anything to resist and attack you. Of course, there will be no rules and time periods. Once a fight starts, you cannot decide when it is going to end. Fighting in an uncontrolled environment is totally different. And this is what people face in real life.

No matter which martial art you are learning, don't live in a world of imagination. When you get more exposure to reality, you know more about what works and what does not. For example, you can make different moves to defend against knife attacks. Once the knife is out, there is a risk to get cut while defending.

You can reduce the risk and defend yourself if you stop the attacker when he is about to grab the knife. Don't let the attacker draw his weapon. You have a better chance to defend yourself.

Thanks for this wonderful guide about doing what is necessary to safe guard ourselves.

Is not all about following skills and tactics is a self defense fight which was not expected from the enemy when under attack.

To me I think skills, strategies and tactics in a fight is fully applied when necessary when we are involved a real combat fight and not applied fully in a street fight.

Street fight in the sense that the enemy or opponent may get involved with any form of weapon in other to injure or kill for the fight.

That's where many get it wrong using combat tactics in a street fight which is not really ideal for safety.

So in some situations we have to apply diverse skills as you said in other to stay safe and protect ourselves against our enemy.

Thank you.

When someone is being attacked, that is an uncontrolled environment. You can say that police will come and protect you. Even the police come to rescue you, you have to survive the time it takes for the police to arrive. It is better to be prepared and trained to defend yourself. You might find it very useful one day. Thank you for your comment!

In self defence, I think you sometimes need to use your brain to determine what is workable and where your acquired skills cannot be of help, you can bring your own tactics to bear. The bottom line remains that you must do all possible in order not to loose a fight and get hurt.

Knowing different techniques for safeguarding oneself is good but having to practice it is much better as one get to put into practice and see if it works in certain situations.

I think one has to be a little intuitive or creative too in certain situations has some unexpected times requires a different approach. One thing must be noted, never to give the opponent any edge whatever the situation.

What we learn and we need to test that whether that can be used under pressure and in a position of disadvantage. This is what we usually face when we fight for self-defense. Thank you for your feedback!
