Anime Story

The first question that pops into my head when sitting down to watch the Blue Lock movie is, "Who is this film actually made for?" On one hand, it feels like it's for Blue Lock fans, but the entire movie is basically a recap of Season 1, so for those who've binged the series already, it'll feel like déjà vu. On the other hand, even thinking about new viewers, cramming a whole season's content into 91 minutes means a lot of crucial parts got skipped, leaving anyone who knows nothing beforehand totally lost in a maze.

Who is the anime for?

So, who is this movie's target audience? I think it's for those who once devoured the Blue Lock manga or watched the anime with tons of fun, but have been out of touch for the past year or so. Meaning, they already know the plot, but they've forgotten the details. I'm a victim of that myself, and that's why a lot of the movie felt fresh to me again.

The story covers the familiar events from Season 1, but this time, the focus is on Seishiro Nagi. This guy's the epitome of laziness. Like, his life's all about the dilemma of "Should I go practice or just fall asleep?" But the fun part is, his talent is limitless. It's only because of his rich friend Mika that he even starts playing soccer. From there, his journey begins, and the movie tries to show that journey through Nagi's eyes. The character's genuinely interesting—he doesn't have that over-the-top "ego" like the others; instead, he just steps onto the field with this cool vibe.

The problem is, none of this is new. If you've seen the series, you already know it all. Only the early part with Nagi and Mika's first meeting feels fresh. Otherwise, there's nothing surprising enough to call it a shock. So, even calling it a standalone movie, it's pretty confusing for new viewers. To me, they could've just made it a straight Season 1 compilation movie.

Technical Aspects

On the technical side, the movie gives mixed feelings. Some animation is absolutely eye-popping, but some of the CG is so bad that I'm sure watching it on the big screen would feel like a FIFA gameplay replay is rolling. It might blend in on a TV screen, but keeping theaters in mind, it'll feel off. Even on my 32-inch, it looked weird.

Despite all the limitations, the movie still entertained me. Nagi's character is worth watching, the matches are still thrilling, and the drama is as over-the-top as ever. But if I have to recommend it, I'd say: If you haven't seen it, watch the series first, then take at least a year-and-a-half break before this movie. That way, it'll feel like you're enjoying the journey all over again. And if you've seen the series recently, wait a year before diving in.

I would like rate 7 out of 10.

I didn't get a chance to see this movie, but I think it's a great choice. For those looking to revisit the main story from another character's perspective.
Good post.
