RE: The Roar in the City

inside was like a bowl of steaming soup because the smoke from the forest fires was trapped in the semi-enclosed space.

Evocative image, but reality is it woudl have KILLED my lungs. Have the fires settled now or are they still burning?

The smoke hasn't been a major problem yet, but at the time of the world cup, the smoke was pretty bad. Forest fire season doesn't end until October. Like clockwork it shows up every season. Mark Twaine wrote about it when he traveled around these parts. There were huge forest fires that blanketed everything in smoke and Twaine captures the event with very lucid prose.

Even back then!

I know we've sent some of our firies your way to help. Early 2020 we had terrible fires here - I couldn't breath all january, then we left here and went straight into a pandemic. Felt like hell was a-risin'.

I once thought it would be a good idea to go camping while fires were raging nearby. Everything had a dirty yellow tint, the smoke burned the lungs, and the heat was oppressive. Worst camping experience ever.

Then like you, we also had the pandemic thrown on top. Great times to be an apocalyptic writer and prophet. 😁

And thanks for the help! 🌹
