Watching Cricket World Cup match on Sunday

Usually, on weekends, in daytime, I spent most of my time sleeping or watching movies. But this Sunday, I had on and off sleep while watching a cricket match. It was not an ordinary match, it was a league match of World Cup 2023 between Afghanistan and England. Being a Pakistani, love for Cricket is in my blood and I am a big fan of Cricket. But why watching this ordinary match, yes, there is a reason behind it.

This World Cup started on 5th of Oct but before that, there is a big tournament started at my work. The Fantasy league season 2 in which we have to make our own teams with the best players. It happened last year too which I lost by miles and also shared my story here. Last time, unluckily, my players got injured and ruled out of World Cup so this time, I did some homework and selected players very carefully. It is not easy to select the players as there are some limitations and we have to act accordingly in selection of players or else we get disqualified. Last time, we had 43 teams but now, more employees joined and now we have 52 fantasy league teams and everyone is got netter because they learnt a lot in past fantasy league, same with me.

The matches start at 1:30 pm so we usually miss the big part of the game at work and when we return home, we just get the ending part to watch. Weekend is the best time to watch the complete match. Now its time to reveal why so much interest and importance to that match where Pakistan was not playing. It is because I have selected a player in my fantasy team from England and I want that player to score a hundred or take catches to earn me good points. I realized that due to this fantasy league, my interest to watch every match where my selected player is involved increases a lot. I am praying for my players to play good more than for the team.

This is a big tournament and a lot more to come but as of now, I am on the second position and because of it, my interest is growing more and more. In previous fantasy league, I was not even close to top twenty but now, in just 10 matches, I am maintaining my position. After adding points of two games, I know I will fall down in points and maybe the leader-board will be totally different but I am happy that my players are performing and getting me good points. My player played a decent inngs today.

I really enjoyed watching today’s match. England, defending champions were playing with not a tough team but yes, they have extremely aggressive players, Afghanistan. It gets interesting when Afghanistan played a very good innings of 284 however, my player didn’t took any catches but the players played beautiful well and the match has become interesting and exciting. I was not expecting such a total from Afghanistan. Then, England started playing but in early stage, they lost some crucial wickets including my selected player who only able to get me around 30 points. Afghanistan didn't missed this chance and kept taking wickets. I really liked the way they played today, not coming slow and not giving any chance to England to recover. Finally, they successfully made their first upset of this World Cup. Afghanistan beating England with 69 runs. Outclass performance, I was not expecting it at all. They made my time worth watching this match. I can say that I watched this historical match because they won it from defending champions which is a very big achievement and a wonderful glory. Now, I am looking forward to the next matches and hoping that my players do well in earning me some good points. Hoping to win this fantasy league.
