Walking through Cumana means finding stories and traditions at every turn. Today I had to go downtown, which meant passing by the century-old tamarind tree and then crossing the bridge on Bermúdez Avenue. How many generations of Cumana residents have walked this path and observed both the tree and the riverbed?
In my case, it has been almost 30 years since I arrived in this city, and I must admit that I am the one who has changed the most. That irreverent, adventurous young man has become an adult approaching the twilight of his life, but the tamarind tree and the Manzanares River are still there, as vibrant as the first time I saw them.
Walking always leads me to reflect on many aspects of the human dimension. During my visits to Cumana as a child staying at my grandmother's house during the holidays, I never imagined that a few years later I would settle permanently in the city and that this decision would be one of the most significant in my life.
That is why, every time I walk along these same paths on my way to the city center, I often remember what Cumana was like at the end of the 1990s and what it is now, a place that clings to a bygone era and its symbols, which is not a bad thing, unless you aspire to live in a metropolis, something that will never happen, at least in the medium term.

Caminar por Cumaná es encontrar historias y tradiciones en cada rumbo. Hoy tuve que ir rumbo al centro y por lo tanto pasar por el centenario árbol de Tamarindo y luego por el puente de la avenida Bermúdez. Caminar siempre me lleva a reflexionar sobre muchos aspectos de la dimensión humana. En mis visitas a Cumaná, cuando era un niño que se quedaba en tiempos de vacaciones en la casa de su abuela, jamás imaginé que pocos años después me quedaría de manera permanente en la ciudad y que esa decisión sería de las más trascendentales en mi vida.
Por eso, cada vez que tránsito por estos mismos caminos rumbo al centro de la ciudad, muchas veces recuerdo cómo era aquella Cumaná al final de la década de los 90s y lo que es ahora, un espacio que se aferra a una época y sus símbolos, lo que no está mal, al menos que se ambicione vivir en una metrópolis, algo que nunca sucederá, al menos a mediano plazo.
