Ice-Cricket in Västlandaholm | Vinterbath & Grilling

(Edited)

Cricket is a sport, best suitable to play in summer on grass. But have you ever imagined playing cricket in winter on ice when it is minus degrees? Compared to countries in Asia where cricket can be played anytime, here in Sweden, cricket can only be played for 5 months and the rest of 6 months are then played indoors because of the weather conditions. Even though there is snow and ice, cricket lovers here in Sweden never stop.

Two years ago, in February, a club named Guttsta Wicked Cricket Club announced that they will hold an event in Västlandaholm, which is approximately 1 hour drive north from Stockholm. This event was called Ice-Cricket, where everyone could play cricket outside on ice. Thinking about it, it sounded so much fun, but at the same time very weird.

We set off early as the time was given at 11 O’clock, the morning was beautiful with snow and sun rising to make the view even better. We arrived early on the spot and luckily enough we found some hunters as you can see in the video at the end of this blog that hunted a fox, looking at their equipment they looked like kings at their thing. As we were the first one after Staffan Lageson who was like the incharge of the event, I thought why not just have a chat with him about what is going to happen.

Selfie time with me in the background 😄

Firstly, Staffan said that the ice must be at least 10 centimeters thick so that we can walk on it. So, they already in the morning checked that the ice is thick enough. They were going to grill and perform a fun Swedish tradition that I didn't know about. According to the ritual they dig a hole in the ice and then take a dip in it and run towards the sauna to get warm. As it was ice, some families had skis and were fielding and slid to get the ball 😀, something new right.

Many families came and we had some great time playing cricket for the first time on ice. Me and @hamza-art started to bat and as the field of ice was huge we could hit the ball wherever we wanted.

What actually made me think of this event was an announcement made a week ago. Yet again, as the pandemic is gone we will have a Ice-Cricket event at the same venue, Västlandaholm 4 February from 11:00 to 15:00 with the same experience with grill, ice-dip and with cricket, so I thought why not share with you what happened last time around we were there. In the end I will share a vlog of that day, so sit back and enjoy the video and that's all from me 🙂.

Quick Notice:
I realized that both the video and poster is in Swedish, it is because the video and poster was made before I even had Hive. So apologies if you guys can't understand, and these pictures and video has been published on Social Media as well on my page SportsNerd.

Amazing photos and great to see that cricket can be played whatever the conditions.

I have to say I don’t fancy the ice bath. I’d stick to the cricket then straight to the sauna 😀
