Managing Voting Power After Hardfork 28

So it has been around a week since Hardfork 28 went live. The main change for Hive user has been the mechanics of voting. Now you can vote 10 times per day at 100% and every time you vote your vote power goes down by 2%.

I still see people keeping their vote power around 80%. This was a recommended curation practice to keep your Voting Power at around 84% so that you can recover fully in a day and due to declining vote power in the past the most effective curation was only available to bots. That is when a bot would vote every two hours or so and would vote with 99% power.

All that is now the thing of the past. Does keeping your Voting Power above 80% still makes sense? I don't think so. To explain why I think it no longer makes sense to follow the old recommendations of above eighty percent, let's see what happens if you keep voting and get down to 0% voting power.

Once you reach 0% you can no longer vote. But when you are at 4% after hardfork 28 your vote value is the same as at 100% The earlier you vote the earlier you will get your curation rewards. And you increase your vote value earlier so it makes no sense to stop at 80%

If you are at 0% it will take you five days to fully recover to 100% voting power. So you recover about 20% per day. I think under a new system it makes sense to curate until you reach 20% that way you still have about 10 votes at a 100% remaining in reserve and you have four days of recovery, so you don't have to worry about reaching full power and your Hive Power sitting idle if you are away for a couple days.

That is my take on curation after hard fork twenty eight. In other news Splinterlands launched a new version of validator node software. If you want to keep validating your node needs to be upgraded to version 1.3.0 before December 9th.

This upgrade of the SPS validator node software introduces something that Hive Witness software still doesn't have. In this mandatory upgrade SPS validator that misses five blocks in a row will get automatically disabled and will not get any new blocks to sign.

That is something that Hive Witnesses could use as we have a witness in position twenty six that missed every single block after Hard Fork 28 as they still didn't find time to disable or upgrade their Witness software.

Another big thing that happened in the last few days is that SPS DAO manager was able to get Coin Market Cap to update their SPS tracking to use SPS validator info which resulted in SPS ranking jumping up by around one hundred places!

That is good news and it didn't cost Splinterlands anything. It is little things like this that make big difference in how mainstream crypto views SPS token. There was a lot of progress like Base blockchain listing this year. I almost feel like Splinterlands and SPS token almost leads Hive when it comes to the progress that is being made in the mainstream crypto.

The last few days there was a bit of recovery in crypto Bitcoin is around eighty seven thousand and Etherium is getting close to three thousand. Will it last? We shall see...
