Celebrating Christmas With Family

Today we had a Christmas day celebration with our son and extended family. The morning we spent cooking, then I picked up my father in law from the memory home then guests started arriving fifteen minutes early.

Even our son who comes from an hour away and usually is ten to twenty minutes late arrived exactly on time. We had Portuguese pork tenderloin with baby potatoes and apples as well as fresh King Salmon that I have grilled.

There were also various salads such as Ukrainian cucumbers, tomatoes and sunflower oil salad as well as Olivie Salad also known as Russian salad in some places.

We also had variety of olives, mini breads with black caviar and a few other items. On the drink menu today we had French white wine and pink wine from Washington state, which I really liked. That was selected by my wife during her recent wine tasting trip to Woodinville.

After the main meal and some friendly banter we exchanged and opened gifts. Everyone gave really nice and thoughtful gifts, even our kids. Our son has good income so it was less surprising, though probably the best gifts he ever gave us.

But even more pleasant were the gifts from our daughter, she held an art sale of her paintings and used a portion of the money she made to buy us all presents.

She bought me my favorite marzipan deserts and a pack of German gingerbread cookies:

After the gift exchange it was time for the deserts and tea. We had loose leaf black tea with some additional flavored with vanilla black tea leafs.

Deserts this time were a selection of gingerbread cookies in dark chocolate, waffles and cookies as well as some candy type stuff.

After deserts it was time for some games, my brother in law's fiance brought over a new game as a present for our daughter and we had some fun learning and playing it. I happened to win the game this time around.

As you can see our yellow Hibiscus plant is flowering very nicely just in time for Christmas 🎄 😀

It was another great day spent with the family. Tomorrow is officially supposed to be a work day for me, but I am on vacation and am very happy about it.

After guests left I even managed a weight lifting workout and I am over eleven thousand steps today because of all the commotion during the morning preparing for the guests.

It was a great day and I am definitely in the holiday mood.
