My Actifit Report Card: May 24 2026

What an amazing day today! We woke up a bit later than usual, then we had breakfast as my wife made us some really nice omelet and then I went to get some much needed mowing of the grass.
I let the grass grow out a bit too much as we didn't have a chance to come to Whidbey Island for a while. And for memorial weekend the wait for the ferry was at least an hour and a half so we took a scenic route and drove through the Deception Pass. It still took almost three hours as the memorial traffic was insane.

Clearly the six dollars a gallon gas has absolutely no effect on how much driving Washington state drivers are doing.
After moving the grass I came back to the house and took a shower though I got an earful from my wife for being behind the schedule we agreed to and she had to wait for me. It was well deserved on my part, I did push the time because I wanted to charge the battery for the lawn mower as this super tall grass eats battery like there is no tomorrow.

Then we went to a historic town of Langley, where we visited our favorite local truffles place. We got a box of truffles, some dark chocolate and a couple of packages of peanuts in dark and milk chocolate and we also got some locally made fudge.
Then we visited a local art gallery, where twenty two local artists rent a place to display their work. We also visited a shop where we got some soap, a glass miniature lamp for our daughter and a few little things.

Then it was time for some ramen. Ultra Ramen was great as always and it turned out that a Dutch lady that owns the eclectic store where we bought soap also owns with her husband the Ramen place as well. Her husband was there cooking Ramen with a team of young kids of college age.
The Dutch lady was there at the store with her adult daughter and was teaching her how to run the store, she was also very friendly and gave us all hugs as we were leaving.

We walked a bit more around downtown Langley and then went to visit a new place that we never visited before. It was basically a large rhododendron garden of around fifty acres. They have hundreds of varieties of rhododendrons there.
I also learned that rhododendron is our state flower. About time as I have been a Washington state resident for almost twenty seven years. We spent a lot of time in Meerkerk Gardens and took a lot of beautiful pictures there.

Some of the pictures in this post like the opening image and the image above were actually taken by my wife. She is really good with her iPhone.
Then we came back home and I did more mowing of the grass with the recharged battery and then was time for the grand finale: fire, charcoal baked potatoes, corn on the cob, grass fed t-bone steak and smores.

It was a long, but a really amazing day. The weather was perfect not too cold and not hot with perfect sun and blue sky!

Dutch Lady making ramen, that's quite interesting since I have always seen Asian people cook ramen, no matter who owns the shop...😃 I am trying to imagine the scenarios...
I think you shared the photos with me a long time ago about it... But would love to see if you have the recent pictures...
It was her husband cooking Ramen and he might be Asian, though I can't tell he looks like he might be part Japanese or Caucasian who lived there for a while
Thank you for sharing your fun weekend. Glad you and your family had a lovely one. Wish our weather here is just as perfect. 😅 It's just too hot that I can't wait till we get a bit more rain. Happy new week ahead!

Definitely looks like a beautiful day! My lawn was getting much longer than usual as well. I ended up having to mow it today and use my bagger so it wouldn't look like trash.
Today wasn't as nice we had rain again, which the plants actually need...
