By the seventh episode there are no more doubts.
"The Last Dance" is an unprecedented product.
A documentary, docuserie, in-depth, TV series (call it whatever you want) able to tell in a stratified way single events, single groups, single people but in their enormous complexity and in the complexity of the general picture.
The absolute protagonist, needless to say, is Michael Jordan.
In episode number 7 2 cataclysmic events of his personal story are deepened:

  • the relationship with his father James
  • the retirement from basketball in 1993

2 events perfectly linked to each other, just as his whole life had been linked to that beloved father, who died in August 1993 shortly after Michael's victory in the third ring.
A violent death, a barbaric murder, carried out by two boys intent on robbing him.
A very hard blow for MJ who lost his reference figure, the one who was always at his side before and after a race, during a hard moment and during victories.
The bond between MJ and his father was very deep and his death catapults his airness into a void that basketball could no longer fill alone.
And so, from then on, his every choice will be conditioned by his disappearance.
A few weeks after James' disappearance, MJ announces his resounding retirement from basketball.
People in tears in Chicago, a shocking press conference for the entire sports world.
MJ was empty. He had beaten Magic and Bird, won Olympic gold, became a "threepeater" and now, without James next to him, he would no longer be able to find motivation.
But MJ is not a normal person.

He's as special as comets in the sky would be

And so, instead of taking refuge in self-pity, in alcohol, in gambling, in drugs, in apathy, he decides to get involved in an unprecedented way.

Michael Jordan enters the world of professional baseball at the White Sox.

News almost more shocking than his retirement.
The whole world wonders if he'll make it, at the threshold of 30 and without a minute's activity behind him.
The dream would be to make it to the Major League.
He starts playing in the Minor League and after a great start, MJ starts making mistakes and playing badly.
The press will outclass him, sports illustrated will humiliate him.
That same vile press that had boasted absurd things about his father's death and even more absurd things about MJ's retirement.
All denials, all proven false.
But MJ is MJ for a reason and so he starts playing pro ball and becomes one of the best players in the Minor League.
The jump to the Major League was a step away, but then came the lockdown.
The pros refused to play and the league decided to start with "substitutes".
Michael in turn refused to play as a substitute.
He didn't feel like one.
It was the end of his relationship with baseball.
A necessary parenthesis to start a new life without Daddy James.
Another chapter in the legend had been written.
The legendary

He's Back

was about to arrive

"The Last Dance" è un prodotto senza precedenti.
Protagonista assoluto, manco a dirlo, è Michael Jordan.

Tutte smentite, tutte dimostratesi false.
