Reto a la Cumbre de Choroní PARTE 1 + BLOOPERS. [ESP - ENG]

Hi, Hive!

A few weeks ago I wrote about the magic of Choroní, its beauty and how much I love to visit it. I still haven't decided on my favorite means of transportation to visit, but I did it this time by bike and, although I didn't make it to the town, I rode along the road that leads to it. All this in the framework of the celebration of the XVIII Reto a la Cumbre de Choroní, an event organized by La Boutique del Ciclismo.

After many years of absence, this november was retaken the race that had its first edition in 1998 until 2011. This impressive challenge was given life by great Venezuelan cyclists and in its last years there were about two thousand cyclists riding through the mountains of Henri Pittier National Park.

Now that you've got some context you can understand the excitement of the cycling community of Aragua ―and of all of Venezuela― upon learning that this year such an event would be restarted. Quickly the groups began their training and the number of cyclists on the roads increased. BiciAventuras and Aventureras Bike (the teams to which I belong) were not left behind and at the slightest opportunity they had they met in the mountains of Henri Pittier to improve their conditions and take on the challenge.

As for me, I had decided what I'd participate, even if I didn't know how. I wasn't in my city and this year, frankly, the frequency with which I ride has decreased, but I didn't want to miss this event. I knew the quality of the organization and with my Aventureras I also knew that the enjoyment was asured. So on a tuesday, October 10, while I was already in Maracay, less than a month before the event and without knowing how I was going to do it, I decided to enroll. That day we went as a group to the facilities of La Boutique del Ciclismo to record content for social media and encourage those who hadn't yet signed up, I guess the energy of the group convinced me.

It was a nice day where we took the opportunity to learn a little about the history of the Choroni summit challenge. Orlando Lorenzo, one of the organizers, showed us the small museum in the store, where there were photos, medals, shirts, trophies and other items related to the competition from its beginnings.

After a chitchat and a coffee we went to BodegónSport21 where there was another kind of hydration. By coincidence in the place was Buddy Bailey, the former manager of the Tigres de Aragua (the city's baseball team) for more than 10 years, so the girls took the opportunity to take some photos with him.

The day before the competition, we went to the store again to pick up the material. We looked for our data in a list until we found the number that was assigned to us. We picked up our kit, shared a while and went home early to rest and recharge our batteries for the next day where we made the challenge our challenge.
