You bring up a very good point. Several healthcare outcome studies have shown that resistance training with weights, particularly the legs reduces fall risk in the elderly. Falls are the biggest risk factor for in hospital deaths and need for surgery in the elderly, as their reduced bone density from age and diet causes them to fracture bones more easily and need surgery with it's attendent risks and when they are not surgical candidiates and unable to get out of bed, they develop both bed sores and pneumonia, not to mention blood clots. Any of these can deprive them of life or led them down a path of more medical complications and poor outcome.

Yup! I am aware of the study and talk about it every now and then!

The beauty industry does a number on the psyche of women and making them skinny and frail instead of healthy and muscular is annoying! These muscles also do so much more like controlling blood sugar and other things so we use calories more efficiently. Lots of benefits!
