“What’s Bugging You?”😳
“Silvertop I want to weed whack every one of these stinging nettle plants to the ground!”🤔
Liz definitely has a problem with these plants Lol!😇
Silvertop does as well Lol!😇
If you accidentally walk-through, touch, or even just lightly brush up against one of these plants your skin will burn for hours!😬
“GROK/ARA….. can you tell me why this plant causes your skin to burn if touched?”

“Silvertop……Tiny hollow hairs called trichomes. They act like little hypodermic needles—their silica tips snap off on contact, piercing your skin and injecting a mix of chemicals!”
OUCH………!🙄
Years ago Silvertop was completely unaware of this potentially painful plant.
I fired up our gasoline weedeater and began to clear part of our yard that borders our woods ……. the perfect location for stinging nettle!
Wearing only a T-shirt in the heat of the day, small pieces greenery covered my forearms!
Suddenly the burning started, and then BLISTERS started forming on my skin!😬
The sad part is I didn’t even have a clue what was happening!😬
With Summer almost here, and everything greening up, Nettles are already three feet tall, and they will continue growing quickly, soon doubling in size!
My friend David that lives in the tiny house, routinely makes tea from stinging nettles.😮
“Silvertop you just need to be careful and don’t drink too much of Nettle tea!”😇
“Not a problem my friend, I will stick to my Latte’s! If you need any more Nettles for your tea, come down to our backyard and help yourself!”☺️
“Liz…… David wants ALL of our stinging nettles Lol!”😇
Be careful out in the forest my friends……
You might run into a Cougar, or Bear, or the most dangerous thing in the forest this Summer ….Stinging Nettles!😬😳
Till tomorrow Silvertop Mike 😊

David knows! Stinging nettles are potent medicinals, and they're also quite nutrient dense! Here on the Big Island, we have an endemic (found only in Hawai'i) relative of stinging nettle, mamaki, which is basically an arborescent (tree-like), thankfully-spineless, stinging nettle, that is revered by Hawaiians. I've used it many times in my own tea blends, and it's wonderful! 😁🙏💚✨🤙

Does it sting like traditional nettle plants?😳
I hope you wore gloves, my friend!😇

I am in the process of trying to tame an area of nettles like that @silvertop. It's a hidden spot in the garden where grass clippings etc have been thrown for about 40 years!so the soil there is crazy high in nitrogen, and nettles thrive there.Did you know if you chop down nettles and put them in a bucket of water and leave for 2-3 weeks, then strainthe resulting STINKY liquid, you have a super liquid feed for plants. Its especially good for anything that wants a lot of nitrogen, such as leafy greens, or also for tomatoes early in the season, before they start to flower.

Very good to know my friend, sounds like a very good way to add nitrogen to garden soils!👍
I will try that, with gloves, of course!😇

Definitely with gloves 😆
Also, if any of the stinky liquid spills on your clothes, they're done for, that smell will never come out 🤢

Wow you're skin is a lot more reactive than mine. Or those nettles are worse than the ones that I have encountered throughout my life. It does sting a little, bit I rarely get anything worse than an itch for 20min tops. When Lily runs into them, I always put mint oil on the spot. That cools and smells good and makes her forget about the sting.

I think the problem was that the weed eater liquefied the juices!🙄
I learned to never do that again Lol!😇
