Community Discussion - Skatehive taking a 1%-5% beneficiary cut from content creator rewards

Yo, what's up Skatehive fam?

We had a discussion the other day in Skatehive Discord about how we can make Skatehive a more sustainable project and there was this idea of taking a small % from every content posted inside Skatehive.app.

Why should we?

Taking a small cut from posts will be a great passive income stream for the community. It will help us in covering monthly expenses like Skatehive.app Server Costs/Discord boosts as well as grow our Hive stake.

Having more Hive in our wallet means more influence on Hive blockchain, bigger upvotes to skateboarders, more flexibility when it comes sponsoring events and will make funding community projects much easier.

On the other hand it will affect content creators earnings and we don't want by any means to "hurt" the community so we think we shouldn't go for more than a 5% cut. Let's take a look at a projection about how much those beneficiary rewards can earn us in a monthly basis.

Example

Pending Weekly Payments in Skatehive.app are $600. From that $600 50% goes to content creators and the other 50% goes to curators. @skatehive account will keep a beneficiary from the $300 going to content creators.

1% beneficiary = $3 per week / $12 per month
3% beneficiary = $9 per week / $36 per month
5% beneficiary = 15 per week / $60 per month

What do you think ?

Do you find this a good idea? What's the ideal % @skatehive should keep? Do you disagree? Why? Do you think this will drive away users? Please put some thought and let us know at the comments section bellow.

Skatehive is a community driven project so the community is in charge or implementing changes. If you like this idea we go for it, if you don't we won't so your feedback is precious!

Cheers community, let's build 🔨🔨🔨

I would be happy to give a % of my post rewards to build the @skatehive account! My suggestion is 3% or 5%, 1% is just too little in my opinion.

I've thought about doing this for the movies account, but specifically to build the community account for curation purposes. I think if you can find benefits for the community to justify it, most won't mind. Liketu takes 1% per post on its front-end and offers a different experience. 3speak takes a whopping 11% but curate posts and again offer features to make it worth it.

In short: people don't really mind. Providing you give them a little something to make it worth the cut. ;^)

My thoughts exactly! We have a few solid projects we need some help with founding like https://skatehive.app/, https://stoken.quest/ and some monthly expenses like Discord server boosts so a small passive income source would help a lot.

Also as we grow we're gonna need lots more Hive Power to curate and taking a small cut will help us do that! Everything we earn goes back to the community, that's how we do things hehe!

Thanks for your feedback @namiks!

the more we build out our own site, the more we will probably need this.

I think it's convenient in the sense that with more HP the official skatehive account can give us more profit with it´s votes in all our publications so in the long run it can be a win-win for the community in general (I might be saying this without having done enough math haha).

On the other hand, all @homelesscrewmx posts have always given a certain percentage to @keepskating420 ,tipu , and hiveonboard so in total we already donate 5% of our profits automatically, do all accounts work this way? Having said that, another % to another account would make us move a bit slower in our skate projects that today are 100% financed with HIVE profits.

We don't know if we can remove these 3 automatic beneficiaries from our posts and if this would affect the reaching and support we receive from curators on each post we make. If removing them from the automatic benefit doesn't affect anything, we'd be happy to share 1%-3% of the profits and leave what is missing for the 5% to @keepskating420, he hasn't had the chance to be very active in the community lately but it is a true web 3 OG here in mexico and we have collective projects in which we're looking for alternatives to involve more local people in web 3.0

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah you can remove those beneficiaries easy using peakd (https://peakd.com/me/referrals).

I don't think this will affect the curation in a negative way, lots of projects on Hive do that as @namiks mentioned in his comment.

As we grow we need to find a way to grow our curation accounts too. If 1000 people joined today we wouldn't be able to curate them all so we need to grow our stake on Hive.

Thanks for your feedback G!
