F1 2023 season is about to start with the first official race at Bahrain International Circuit on Sunday, March 5, 2023. There is a lot of expectations, now with all mayor teams reveal their livery and new cars, except Red Bull who decided to lie about it, there are new faces in the Grid and old faces making side moves preparing for the future. Today I would like to talk about my expectations, there is a lot to look for and every team has their own bit of surprises.

Right now I think no body can talk about performance, the teams can only make promises and guess how the cars will perform compare to the other teams on the grid, anyone who says who is going to be faster is full of themselves. Last season I was very please because the competition was tighter, drivers like George Russell had his debut at Mercedes with a very solid performance ending up forth place in the drivers championship with 1 win and 8 podiums he even outperform the senior driver of the team Lewis Hamilton the 7 times F1 World Champion. There were other drivers who gave us a great show and some of their best performance like Sergio Perez at Red Bull finishing third in the championship and Fernando Alonso who had a lot of internal issues at the team and out of luck in certain races, 2022 was a blast and I expect 2023 to be even better. In terms of tracks on 2022 we had a new track Miami, in my opinion and Ok race for been the first one, Australia came back into the calendar and unfortunately Sochi couldn't make it due to the conflicts on Russia.

After all the 2022 drivers contracts drama this is the drivers list for the 2023 season.

The moment where your heroes becomes the villian, for me 2021 was full of adrenaline and hope, Red Bull finally had a real shot at the championship and Max Verstappen with 24 years was about the become the second youngest F1 World Champion for Red Bull and the forth in history after Fernando Alonso, the championship end up in a weird situation at the last race for exactly one point of difference between Max and Lewis after a collision, it was not illegal for the stewards to let the cars pass Max and Lewis but at the same time was not the best ethical choice, at the end wining is wining but for me it was a bit sour for my taste, still Max Verstappen World Champion.

On 2022 the entire game change with the new cars came a lot of problems regarding to downforce and suspension, the two teams that got the best out of this were Ferrari and Red Bull, Ferrari back at the front after many years, considering their last F1 championship was on 2007 with Kimi, they started to see the light at the end of the tunnel and finally had a shot with Charles Lecrerc and the Ferrari F1-75 but bad management was their doom that in my opinion down the road this had an effect on their main driver Charles, they guy became a mess constantly questioning and asking the pit what was the strategy, doubting their tire changes, when to pit, eventually Ferrari replace Mattia Binotto for 2023. I think this was not the best move because he is the guy who put them in front after many years, at least they should have give him 2023 season but tight him down and get things clear.

Lets go and review what's new for the teams and what to expect.

Mercedes-AMG F1 W14:

For 2022 it was a mix feeling at the Mercedes garage, we got the 7 time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton and the rookie of the team George Rusell who at first to be hones I didn't have any hopes and really don't like the guy that much but I consider myself loyal to the sport and not fanatic of any team, what I mean is that I recognize when drivers deserve to be respected and Rusell demonstrated that he is not a guy you want to mess with on the track, the truth is that George outperform Lewis for the most part of the championship with the same car that has the same purposing problems and power restrictions due to the fear of bottoming out. Lewis performance was not what we are use to but I can tell he was trying unfortunately the car was not suited for him at the moment.

Almost all teams reveal their cars for the 2023 season, the Mercedes team had no changes in management or drivers and that has been the key for many years, they stick with the things that work with Lewis as their main driver and Totto at the head of the team management, its up to the car and based on the pictures it looks very fit, the floor of the car looks less wide, the cero sidepods theory remains but they look to be a bid wide compare to the 2022 version, I love the 2023 livery all black with carbon fiber details and the marine green stripes. One more thing I'm glad is that Nick Schumacher is now the official third driver for Mercedes, I think he has a lot of talent but its hard to be a rookie and perform on a team like HAAS, been at Mercedes will give him a lot of tools he didn't has at his previous team plus two great drivers who so far get along, Lewis and Russell.

Ferrari SF-23:

With the same line up, we got Charles and Carlos both great drivers with a lot of talent, in my opinion Carlos been the best of the two with more temper and way more calm during the race than Charles, he was very unlucky last year with the bad reliability of the engine to a point that his car got on fire.

Fred Vasseur, as I mention I thinking putting down Binotto so fast after he was the one who put Ferrari in the front row last year was a bit unfair but F1 is not a fair sport, it is a money sport so the team has an agenda, when they are a team like Ferrari their only goal is wining races and championship. Fred Vasseur was Alpha Romeo team boss for 2022 and I think they bounce back pretty good with Bottas and Zhou but had same reliability problems as Ferrari, the good part about Freed taking over Ferrari is that Charles seem to have a close relationship with Fred, after all Charles started his F1 career at Alpha Romeo and did pretty well so this can take some pressure of his shoulders and let him drive freely, I think besides the reliability part of the engine getting management work together with their drivers without that stress and doubt, will put Ferrari back in the race for the Championship because to be honest on 2022 second part of the season they were out before it started.

Red Bull RB-19:

Here is were you see the hero become the villain, as I mention for the most part I have been on the Red Bull side for many reasons

  • Only F1 team who was not a manufacture
  • Mercedes had 7 years as champions
  • Max is a great driver, very competitive, top driver
  • Only Honda engine on the grid

I can say I like the underdog, who doesn't, it makes the race more interesting. The 2022 seasons was pure Red Bull domination on the second half of the season, their car design was on point they had no purposing issues and could take the engine to the limit and at a certain point many cars like the Alpine and Austin Martin look very similar to Red Bull's, they had the F1 2021 champion and the third best driver of the grid, Red Bull had everything. But, two incidents happen during the season that I just didn't like at all and I'm at the point that I don't know what to expect from the team.

1- Monaco, I have review the footage and some proofs that some fans have expose that Sergio crash on purpose so Max couldn't take another lap and had a better qually.

2- Interlagos, when Max didn't want to let Sergio pass him so he could get the points and be on the lead for the second place and Red Bull can do the 1 and 2 for the drivers championship, at this point Max already won the championship, this was suppose to be retaliation for Monaco.

What's worst is that the Red Bull management didn't say anything about the two incidents like nothing happen, for what I have seen this has make a lot of people angry online for both sides, Max fans, Sergio Fans and Red Bull fans too. This is the reason that I'm a fan of the sport and not a fanatic of any team, to avoid feeling this way.

For the 2023 season I only expect the best from Red Bull, even if Mercedes is 50% better that means they will be head to head and if Ferrari is reliable then it will be the top three teams head to head on every race, this would be a dream come true, the top six cars been so close to each other but I do have to say that Red Bull was the one who master the new F1 car in 2022 and won the championship so they have the advantage in the design and performance of the car.

2023 Pre season testing will happen on February 23 to 25 at the Bahrain International Circuit, same place that the first race will take place on March 5.

This season is going to be fireworks from start to finish, I hope the forecast is true and we will have more competition between the top three teams, I also haver other expectations for the season for example see how Alonso is going to perform at Austin Martin, if finally the green truck will perform at the track.

Oscar Piastri, the guy who made Alpine look like rookies and fools after he already sign with McLaren, not telling Alpine, Alonso goes to Austin Martin so Alpine twitt their new driver was Oscar to then Oscar answer back saying he is not, what a sht show.

Daniel Richardo coming back home to Red Bull Racing as their third driver to find his moyo back and who knows he could probably come back but I doubt it would be as second driver for Red Bull, most likely to Alpha Tauri.

There is going to be a lot of things to be excited for this year in F1 plus a new track at USA Las Vegas and Im even more exited about the future from 2024 to 2026, new teams, new engines, partnership between Red Bull and Ford, F1 is getting a lot of traction world wide and is just getting better and better.
