Now onto the News, Rumors, and Commentary…
“Giolito finished the day by going 4.1 innings and allowing four earned runs, three hits, and five walks. The Astros first four runs were the product of walks. After the White Sox 6-1 loss in Game 1, the Chicago White Sox needed Lucas Giolito to be in bully mode. Lucas Giolito of the Chicago White Sox needed to be a little better in order to win.”
“Dylan Cease needs to be the starter for the Chicago White Sox on Sunday night. With Cease on the mound, they would be giving themselves the best chance to win. If a fourth game is needed on Monday, you could decide between Rodon and everybody else available then but Cease needs to be the guy in this one. Lucas Giolito and Lance Lynn weren’t their normal dominant selves in Houston so it would be nice to see Cease pick them up in Chicago.”
” “Francona said, ‘All we have to do is just win one game,’” La Russa said. It’s a statement resonating with La Russa after Chicago’s 9-4 loss to Houston at Minute Maid Park on Friday afternoon, which put the White Sox down 0-2 in the best-of-five AL Division Series and one loss away from playoff elimination. “Our backs are against the wall right now,” White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson said. I hope we’re ahead on Sunday, and I think you’ll see what he’s done his whole career.” With everything on the line come Sunday night at Guaranteed Rate Field, the White Sox will need every player on the roster to step up and win that one game.”
““I know where these guys play me,” Anderson said. With three knocks in Chicago’s 9-4 loss to the Astros in Game 2 of the American League Division Series on Friday afternoon, Anderson set an MLB record with 13 hits through his first five playoff games. We know things will get better.” Anderson isn’t the only Chicago hitter off to a strong start offensively. Anderson gave the White Sox some life with a single in the ninth after a walk by César Hernández.”
“Anything else fans might want to know? La Russa has lost five straight playoff games with the White Sox, with the first three coming in 1983 during an ALCS loss to the Orioles … What might the starting lineups look like? Astros: Don’t expect Baker to change much, considering the Astros won each of the first two games of the series by five runs and they had 10 hits in each game. The streak dates back to Game 3 of 2020 ALDS. Pressly has an outstanding slider, so it was a situation where we know when we’ve got Graveman, that those two guys could be interchangeable between setup and close.”
“But the Padres stormed back with a win over Dennis Eckersley in Game 3 and Steve Garvey’s walk-off homer against Lee Smith in Game 4. The League Championship Series used a 2-3 format before expanding to a best-of-seven game series in 1985. The Tribe blew out Boston, 11-1, in Game 2 before the Red Sox stormed back for 9-3 and 23-7 routs in Games 3 and 4 at Fenway Park. But the Red Sox stormed back in Game 3 thanks to a pair of Oakland mistakes.”
