My Actifit Report Card and Update: May 8 2025

Hi Everyone,

I’m back with another Actifit Report and Update. I had a reasonably active day count-wise even though I didn’t actively do any exercise. Sometimes just going out somewhere just racks up the counts. Yesterday, we went to the theatre again. That’s two shows in two months. Last month, it was the Book of Mormon. This month, it was The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is such a famous story. I haven’t read the book, but I’ve seen the movie a few times. Of the three Narnia movies, I enjoyed The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe the most.

The story told in the stage show remained close to the movie, which I assume is consistent with the book. Transitioning between worlds through the wardrobe was well done. Even though there were minimal props and sets, the winter world was well done. The puppets were reasonably good. Aslan looked majestic from the front but wasn’t as good from the side. He didn’t look as impressive as the horses from War Horse.

The pacing of the story was a little problematic. More attention was spent on the first half of the story. I think what slowed it down was going to Narnia three times. The first time was when Lucy met Tumnus. The second when Edmund met the White Witch. The third was when all four children entered Narnia. For the story to work, this needed to be done, but as a play, the first two visits become extended because of the songs. The first act ended well before Aslan makes an appearance.

The second act was a little more rushed as the story still had a long way to go. Father Christmas’ appearance felt a bit out of nowhere. The main battle at the end was short and not that impressive. Aslan’s sacrifice to save Edmund was well done. We could argue that this was more significant to the story than the battle. It would have been difficult to do everything justice in just 2 1/2 hours.

My Content

I’m back and committed to posting on my @spectrumecons account. I posted the results of the Sapien Loop quiz and part two of my series comparing Sapien Loop with our world.

Q4_2025_THUMB_Results.jpg

We had eleven participants for the quiz; that’s the most this year. The quality of the answers was good too. Four participants managed to answer eight out of nine questions correctly. This is good considering that I also included questions from the short stories.

In my other post, I discussed the economy and power structure in Sapien Loop and compared it to the real world. I discussed how the power structure determines the economy. I compared CBDC and UBI with tokens and rights used in Sapey. I also compare the five main areas of the establishment in both worlds. I am to shed some light on the real world through storytelling, and I’m using these posts to explain how I’ve done it.

That wraps up this Actifit Report and Update. I wish everyone a great week and an enjoyable weekend.

It's always going to be difficult to make a book into a live play, just like it's also going to be difficult to make a book into a movie. I want to think the book hides a lot of thoughts, foreshadowing and many dramatic effects which will have to be dramatized in a physical form, so it's going to be hard to fit it in with 2 hours.
People will start getting bored when it takes too long, unlike a real movie. So I guess this is why it's rushed.

I think some books are more challenging than others. Movies can transition between scenes much quicker than a play. That's why so much time was taken up nearly on when they moved between Narnia and the real world several times.

I agree. There's no hack yet on how to make play scenes better, perhaps maybe deploying some form of tech in modern day plays, but it'll still be very difficult
