Here we go again! Dustin Poirier talking of coming back to UFC

I'm not all about people staying retired in sports, I am just a little disappointed when the organization puts on this huge spectacle about this being their retirement match, sometimes make the night all about that guy or girl, have a massive video about their career and whether they win or lose they get a standing ovation from the crowd and a fantastic sendoff with a thank you for all the years of greatness sort of vibe about it all.

Then they wait a little while and come back.... or so that seems to be the case with almost all of them.

They make a big deal about placing their gloves in the middle of the octagon, Dana White will normally come by and give them a hug, and they get "one last photo" with the people who really run the show. They exit a hero and then we all have to mourn the fact that someone we really liked isn't going to be on our screens anymore. Then, most of the time it seems, they wait a little while and then start talking about how they are bored and want to fight again.

This is precisely what "The Diamond" is doing right now.

"It’s just weird — it feels weird being a civilian,"

Well, you aren't exactly a soldier or a police officer when you fight with the UFC buddy, but I get what you mean.

The reason why anyone is even talking to the dude is because of his close affiliation with Justin Gaethje, who is on the main card of this weekend's first non PPV big event that will be hosted by Paramount instead of privately broadcast by Zuffa.

I'm not holding my breath on this going over very well but that will have to be saved for another day.

Right now Poirier could have been roped into talking about this at all by the always annoying Ariel Helwani. That guy I guess is good at his job but I sincerely with more people than do would punch the guy - jeez he is such a prick.

It starts with a question, then it leads to more people goading him to actually do it, then it leads to contract negotiations and the next thing we know it is a question of whether he wants to do UFC or do some boxing bullshit with Jake Paul.

Honestly, if I was Poirier, I would take the fake boxing money with Paul if it was an option because the last thing I want to see is someone that has a stellar track record in the UFC come back to it because "he misses it" or because he needs money and then completely destroy his legacy like so many others have done before him.

Stay retired dude. You are Hall of Fame. You come back and "Cowboy" yourself and that all fades from memory and all we have is the sort of thing in our heads where you were just an old man punching bag that was built up to make way for new talent. Dana White does this to "old horses" on a regular basis. Don't give him the opportunity to do that to you.
