Korea is in, Uruguay is out!

It was an exciting World Cup day for me personally because I have somewhat of an attachment or in the case of Uruguay, a rather extreme dislike for the team. No offense to anyone in Uruguay of course, it isn't your fault that one of the biggest cheaters in recent times happens to be a big part of the team.

I don't really follow the sport very much but I do remember Luis Suarez' antics in the past where he intentionally used his hands to save a goal, got ejected, and then was seen celebrating the fact that they missed the penalty afterwards. He also was known to bite other players and just be a dirty player all around. Players like him are probably not at all happy about the introduction of VAR because a large portion of their game has been destroyed because of it. A part of "the game" that many, like myself, don't feel as though it ever had any place in it.

he writhed on the ground for a bit but then noticed that the play was still going on and he was immediately cured of his terrible injuries!

Again, I am not an expert in this but I did notice a couple of times yesterday where Uruguay strikers would be charging for a contested ball and as soon as they cross into the box, it seems as though they are no longer interested in getting to the ball, but instead they are interested in putting their legs in front of the other guy so contact will be made and they can go sprawling onto the ground in the hopes of getting a penalty. Penalties that were NOT awarded and thank goodness for that.

Despite a 2-0 win over Ghana, Uruguay has been eliminated from the World Cup. Korea pulled off an impossible feat as well by defeating Portugal 2-1. Both games were nail-biters to the end as there were multiple times where all the happiness the Korean fans were feeling could have been completely squashed.

Another thing that surprised me was the fact that Ronaldo didn't seem to be playing very well and he was actually taken out of the game by the manager about mid way through the 2nd half. Ronaldo didn't seem very happy about this. People expect a lot of him because he is considered by most to be one of the best players of all time. Last night he just seemed to be seriously off his game. What do I know though? I only pay attention once every 4 years.

When Korea got that 2nd goal late in the game the crowd went absolutely nuts. It was deafening at the bar I was in so I can only imagine how loud it must have been in the actual stadium.

I have mentioned before that I have a soft spot for Asian teams in the World Cup or just team competitions in general because they always seem to try so hard but no one really thinks they ever have a chance of actually winning. I like underdogs, what can I say.

I get that tensions run high at this event but my disdain for Uruguay was reinforced when after the final whistle happened, several of the players rushed the referee and it appeared as though at least one of them was about to actually assault him. There was at least one yellow card handed out because of this and the referee quickly left the field with security getting involved to stop Uruguay players from following. This is a level of bad sportsmanship that we don't often see at the World Cup and I find it inexcusable.

I remember from my own youth that it doesn't really matter how sure you are that you are correct. It doesn't matter how important the game is to you or your fans or countrymen, it doesn't even matter if the referee is incompetent.... you do not go after a referee like this and when you do it after a game instead of during, it just makes you look like a coward as well.

I don't think there are going to be very many people out there that are going to join Suarez in his tears. I wish no ill will to anyone, but I think Uruguay players kind of bring this ire on themselves. With the addition of VAR they may have to change their overall strategy away from theatrics, and instead focus on actually playing the sport. In the meantime, I am very happy that Korea will be going through to the knockout stages instead of them.

What a sad moment for Uruguay. They've fought so hard. Salute to South Korea for fighting even though they faced a very tough Portugal in their final match of the group stage. So far, Son hasn't scored a goal yet. Maybe his time will be on the KO stage.

It's sad for everyone when they get ousted. 31 teams have to go home a bit sad eventually!

Yeah. Eventually only one team remains. But the sad thing here is their early exit. They have a quite good talent pool but this is football, "anything" is possible.

I didn't really care if they went through or not, but at least what comes around goes around.

I expected Ghana to trash Uruguay but instead they flopped, anyway Ghanaians we're satisfied Uruguay did not make the next stage, their joy was overwhelming 😂😂😂

I found it very nice the way that the Ghana side was actually consoling the Uruguay players even though Ghana had just lost the game and also they have a history going back 12 years too.

It's sad that we saw this type of behavior from Uruguay but I feel we cannot say the whole team is bad due to a person. Rest, the type of fight Korea gave to Uruguay for the match was insane, looking forward to Korea's match with Brazil.

That match was a bit of a one-sided affair vs Brazil wasn't it? They look like they are going to be very tough to beat!
