Lions upset Chiefs in season opener

I don't think anyone saw this happening, the bookies certainly didn't who on a straight bet had the defending Super Bowl champions favored nearly 2-1 at -450.

As the game progressed it was actually quite boring with almost no scoring in the 1st quarter at all. The sole touchdown came from an unlikely source, the Detroit Lions.

For Amon-Ra St. Brown, this is a very big deal because it is quite an honor to score the very first touchdown by anyone on any team in the regular season. He would finish the game as the top receiver for the Lions with 6 receptions for a total of 71 yards.

however, one touchdown certainly doesn't seal the fate of the game and the second quarter appeared as though the KC side had "found their legs" and were going to end up dominating the game just like the pundits predicted.

The Chiefs book-ended the 2nd quarter with a TD in the start of it and near the end of it. They controlled that quarter in a fashion that made it look like the one touchdown by the Lions was a fluke and that this game was going to be a blowout. I know that at this point I started to actually watch other things at the same time as the game because it was starting to look like a one-sided affair. Wow was I ever wrong and with the Lions starting off the 2nd half with an early touchdown, it looked like it could be anyone's game. The Chiefs were unable to do much in the way of meaningful offense henceforth and even though the kicking team was doing a good job putting the Chiefs back on top with a pair of back-to-back field goals from reasonable distance, things were not looking good for Kansas City who no longer looked like the dominant force they appeared to be in the 2nd quarter.

At around 7 minutes into the 4th quarter the Lions scored a cracker of a touchdown on an 8 yard rush that it looked like you could have driven a truck through the hole the defense left and if you know anything about football, it is not a good thing at all if you don't score on the very next drive.

from this angle the hole doesn't look as big I'll admit

I am not a huge fan of either of these teams but I do have some friends and family that live in the Kansas and Missouri areas and I am sure that this is not how they imagined their season starting. By the middle of the 4th quarter live betting bookies were not even accepting bets on the Lions with a -1000 line on it. If you don't know what these stats mean it is always based on the winnings you would get on a bet of $1000 so a -1000 line means that you are no longer allowed to bet on that particular thing.

A lot of peopled ended up losing money on this game because virtually no one bet on the Lions. With the Chiefs going into this game heavy favorites with a home field advantage, there were only some fringe bets in the direction of Detroit. For those that did bet on the Lions, they won big.

Now we have to just wait and see if the Lions can keep the momentum going. In the past the Lions have done what a lot of teams do and that is to give their fans some false hope only to squander it away by about week 6. Detroit is one of those teams that I always root for even though I have no affinity towards them. I just kind of feel bad for teams and their fans when they have been relatively bad for a long time. Detroit is definitely one of those teams and I look forward to them hopefully keeping this greatness going. I wouldn't bet on it though :)

So glad football is back! The Lions are interesting and competitive team, I'm really curious to see if they can sustain this going forward. The Chiefs need Kelce back and perhaps some better receivers, maybe sign Jarvis Landry!

Yeah I am stoked it is back as well. As much as I try to enjoy it baseball just doesn't do it for me so sports are a bit sparse in my world over the summer.
