Nate Diaz cleared of charges from "street fight" in New Orleans

I put "street fight" in quotes because honestly, it starts and finishes in about 8 seconds with basically zero shots thrown.

If there ever was a guy that you probably don't want to mess with it is likely Nate Diaz. I would advise against getting involved in a scrap with any MMA fighter, especially the ones you see on TV. I did a few semi-professional fights in my 20's and while I wasn't very good at it and retired with a record of 1-2, I know from experience that there is a very real difference between someone who thinks they are hardcore and someone who has trained at being capable of causing real harm to another person for years.

Growing up, I knew plenty of people that were a lot of talk and no action. When these people were faced with actual fair fights, or even unfair ones that they initiated, they would often crumble into chaos and panic very quickly and one famous one of a gigantic friend of mine that we called "Mark in the Park" got floored in a single punch when he decided to harass a boxer outside of a club while he was drunk. You just don't mess with people who have trained in real martial arts, let alone someone who is considered to be one of the best in the world at it.

It's difficult to tell what is actually going on in any of the stills or even the video of the altercation that took place in New Orleans a few months ago but the story goes like this: A YouTuber who does some sort of fight commentary online - I'm not certain as I had never heard of the guy nor listened to any of his work - is named Rodney Petersen and he looks a bit like Jake Paul... this is likely intentional on his part as he seems to be chasing fame by any means necessary.

He had been harassing Nate Diaz for some time but this is nothing new to Diaz who is regularly targeted by lessor fighters or in the case of Rodney, people that aren't even fighters at all. I suppose getting the attention of a famous fighter is a pretty great way to rocket yourself to getting more followers but in the case of Rodney, I don't know if that is really the end result because Stockton's Diaz is not exactly someone to be trifled with.

It didn't take very long at all for Rodney to get dominated and dropped by Diaz, who professionally choked him out in a very fast fashion.

These images are terrible but that is because it was all taken from a phone camera video, the only one that exists.

It would have been better if Rodney had just taken this KO on the chin and walked it off but instead there was an attempt at pressing criminal charges again Diaz although to be as fair as i possibly can to Rodney, it probably wasn't up to him whether or not to press charges and the police were likely following up on an assault the same way that they would for anything else.

Diaz learned of the warrant for his arrest and turned himself into police and as is far too often the case with the justice system in the USA, it took the courts a full 5 months to determine that Diaz acted in self defense and that it was in fact Rodney that was the aggressor in the exchange.

You can watch the short here if you want to. I cannot find a direct video link without getting someone's stupid commentary over it and making the 10 second video take something like 8 minutes to watch. Everyone is always looking for an angle to make things about themselves I guess.

HERE

I suppose the moral of the story here is that if you are going to start trouble with someone on the streets you probably don't want to do so with a guy who bleeds for fun and doesn't even seem all that bothered by it.

Nate was cleared of all charges without even going to trial and I think it was the correct decision. After you watch that video you will realize that Nate actually took it easy on this guy and could have done a LOT more damage than he did. Nate kind of eased the guy down the ground and didn't strike him at all once he was down. Nate just walked away. To me, even though my viewpoint admittedly is a bit biased since I am a Diaz fan, it is clear that Nate wanted nothing to do with this guy and the entire thing never would have happened if Rodney hadn't initiated it.

Hopefully Rodney doesn't see any increased fanbase because of this because if he does it is only going to encourage other YT and TikTok idiots to do the same thing. At least on YTube, Rodney has a mere 2,000 followers so that is a good thing.

The Diaz brothers are awesome! And good thing things are settled in court.

I agree. They are legends of the sport and have persevered despite everything seeming to be against them. I am sure you remember the thing where Nick was banned from fighting for something crazy like 5 years for testing positive for marijuana. That was insane.

I'm a huge fan of the Diaz brothers. I think that they deserve amazing things for the crap they put up with.

I love the entire argument they started when the 5-year weed suspension was handed out. That got the Diaz brothers mad respect.

They're actually really good people if you're respectful and if you act stupid of course they don't like it. On top of that they've also got cardio for days and are not afraid of fighting on the ground or stand up...

yes in regards to them being actually really nice people. I think that most fighters in MMA are. I have seen several interviews with Nate where he is genuinely nice to the people whose shows he is on even though it is Nate that is doing the podcaster a huge favor by even being there at all.

I can absolutely understand how they are Over the entire fighting situation. It's hard to go punch a guy you just took pics and shook hands with.

Unfortunately people seeking fame and attention is all this is about for all the wrong reasons. A cheap publicity stunt.

The solution is to stop rewarding these people. I am quite impressed that Nate handled this as well as he did. He could have done a LOT more damage to the guy if he had decided to. It's probably tough to be a famous fighter who is just minding their own business and hanging out in public because someone is probably almost always trying to do some sort of crap like this to you.
