RE: Oklahoma City are overwhelming favorites to win NBA Championship

absolutely, I think we have discussed this about a number of different sporting events and there is some level of justification for either format. A best of 7 is extremely time-consuming but it does almost always ensure that the true best team does in fact make it though. In a winner take all sort of situation in the pros, crazy things can happen. Even not in the pros strange things can happen.

I recall a time when I was in high school and on a very good soccer/football team and a team we had beaten 4-0 already earlier in the year, we went to their grounds and I don't know what it was because it was the same team we had previously thrashed but these guys were just unstoppable that day and beat us 9-1. That was around 50% of the total goals that had been scored on us in the entire season up to that point. That team that gave us a whoopin was not a better team than us, they just had an absolutely outstanding day and we were off our game. Later, We ended up winning the conference and then placed 4th in the entire state. They didn't even qualify for the post-season tournament.

Imagine if we had been eliminated because of that one day and they went forward? They would have gotten destroyed in the regionals and it would make our conference look extremely weak. They had a good day, they were not a good team.

Yes that is why on any day any result is possible and a series or best of will always have a fairer result for the stronger team. I prefer the one off because of the unknown factor and the underdog has the chance to win.

in a lot of ways I like it as well. It makes for a more crazy and unpredictable tournament. But since these tournaments in the USA are most likely all about making money we will not see that happen very often.
