Should Evander Holyfield have taken this fight?

For those of you that don't already know, Evander Holyfield is a late replacement for the upcoming Triller fight tomorrow against Vitor Belfort. I think that this is a good money move for Holyfield but is it a good idea overall for Holyfield?

Evander is no spring chicken and I'm gonna go ahead and say that his arms look incredible for a 58 year old man. However, when I watched the press workout he did not that long ago he appeared to get winded even though he wasn't really fighting anyone for real. I don't know how long Belfort has been training for this but Holyfield was a last-minute addition to the headline match when Oscar De La Hoya tested positive for Covid-19.

Holyfield looks like his muscles are in great shape and his punches seemed almost hard enough to hurt someone, but how is his endurance? I think this could end up being really embarrassing for him in the end.

These Triller fights, in my mind, are kind of rigged from the start and it doesn't really look like anyone in the main events, especially when it is boxing legends that we are talking about, are actually trying to KO the other. It seems to me almost as though they have an agreement before-hand that they are not going to go for KO's and this is why I don't pay them much attention.

This isn't Photoshop, Donald Trump is really going to be doing the commentary

The fights have been making huge PPV numbers though and that is why everyone continues to fall for it. Just remember, these fights get worse and worse as they go on and you can remember that we have Mike Tyson and the Paul brothers to thank for this.

I think that for a lot of people, the fact that Trump is going to be doing commentary might be a bigger draw than the actual fights but calling this the "most anticipated heavyweight fight of the year" might be a bit of a stretch.

My Prediction: Holyfield is going to gas out early and Belfort has already been told beforehand to take it easy on the old man. The fight will end in a draw and everyone will be best friends as they reach for their duffle bag filled with cash to take home with them. Holyfield stands a great chance to embarrass himself if it is evident that his cardio sucks but it will still lead him to the eventuality which is a rematch with Mike Tyson. I seriously doubt anyone gets KO'd and there are going to be a lot of tired old-man hugs during the fight.

We the viewers will get stuck with a bill for a fight that is almost certainly not going to be worth watching. People will watch it though, because we are all a bunch of suckers who will throw $50 at almost anything other than a retirement account.

Crazy and definitely one to miss. I can't believe boxing has come to this but it is the "fans" fault for paying to watch crap. So many has beens still looking for a payday. I understand Holyfield wanting the fight as the last I heard he was close to being bankrupt.

was unaware of Holyfield's financial troubles but it doesn't surprise me. These guys are not known for their financial prowess generally speaking.

Yeah the key is not if he should have taken the fight the question is what the hell the Florida State athletic commission is doing as well as the people closest to him in his life

Florida SAC would sanction fights to the death. Anything goes in that state. :P

Some people live for the challenge, WWE hall of Famer Ric flair continued to wrestle up until 2012, He has just signed with AEW, i hope he doesn't get physical but he lives for this sport same case for holyfield.

Big fan of Naitch. DIdn't know he signed with AEW but everyone else seems to be. I hope that the old boys can put some of this younger talent over because I like AEW but it is starting to look like a retirement league of sorts.

Certainly looks like a retirement camp for former wwe wrestlers but talents like jon moxley, orange cassiday and MJF are epic, Ratings are up and rumours of young WWE talents jumping ships are circulating, say Kevin owens.
I think AEW will give the WWE a run for their money.

Bro I knew you would say that! My issue, is that he Holyfield clearly has CTE! They might all have CTE to be fair...

yeah that is a very good point. They probably all do but it kind of comes with the territory i guess. They all just need better financial advisors because Holyfield really shouldn't be in this situation.

I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Silva vs Ortiz!!! I can't believe I was entertained and stayed up to watch the whole event!

I don't think the Silva Ortiz fight deserves a writeup but what a disappointment that was as well. I've seen Tito take an absolute beating in MMA and that tiny little right cross put the lights out? Dude used to take knees to the face and shrug it off.

The commentators were saying that it was because he lost so much weight in a month (which honestly is a crazy accomplishment.) The KO that quickly didn't do much for the man's legacy but he took the loss like a champ!

Silva on the other hand, I love his "maybe i'll keep doing this, maybe I wont" attitude during the interviews.

Do you think it could have been rigged? I've heard some rumours...
I am no boxing expert, so I couldn't tell.

with all of these fights I suspect some level of riggardry. Just my gut tells me that Holyfield wouldn't do that because the big money was always going to be if and when he fights Tyson but after this embarrassment, that fight seems really unlikely.

More likely to see him doing "Dancing with The Stars"

i now see you were talking about a different fight. What would the motivation be for Tito to dive? To give Silva a push? The Spider doesn't even seem terribly interested in fighting at all so i can't see that being the case. Of course there is always the vegas end of things that could be a factor but i'm not even sure if they are taking these Triller things seriously enough to give odds on them. I haven't looked.
